China will face severe earthquakes; year 1, year 2 but by year 3 they’ve already mapped out the fault lines, established a functioning permanent rescue team and advance warning systems, changed regulatory restrictions for building permits to ensure people don’t build close to the fault lines, evacuate the next potential areas and minimize risks.
Ghana will face floods from 2000, face the June 3 disaster in 2015, even after that
Year 1, pleas for donations and funding to tackle flood crisis
Year 2, receive foreign aid
Year 3, attempted dredging
Year 4, project abandoned
Year 5, private people selling wetlands and waterways
Year 6, government workers receiving bribes to allow for people to construct on the waterways
Year 7, sanitation ministry has been operating for decades with nothing to show for it
Year 8, politicians discussing flooding on media channels saying it shouldn’t be “politicized” meanwhile they’re the ones buying the media spots to speak instead of letting engineers and experts speak on the flooding issue.
Year 9, people putting up billboards offering new estates for sale
Year 10, government attempts to abolish some buildings on waterways and wetlands but facing stiff opposition
Year 11, eleven years after June 3 disaster in 2011 and guess what;
Even worse flooding than ever before. Ghanaians dying. Homes being fully submerged in water, cars and properties being destroyed but guess what; we’re still on ground zero. The problem hasn’t even been partially solved and leaders don’t even know where to put the blame.
This is why these Chinese and people in proper countries look down on Africans a lot. Our politicians to them look like empty barrels who will rather pocket money personally than use the funds available to provide permanent solutions.
How can you as an MP or regional minister or MCE, your work for the entire day is that you visited some flooded homes and consoled them so people will take videos and that’s what shows you’re working??
How does that solve the situation.
And even breaking down buildings on Ramsar sites or wetlands was a solution why are there buildings being constructed in the first place to be broken down and why aren’t people being arrested for building there but rather have the audacity to challenge the demolitions?
Why will the President view the flooding above to tell us the same thing that was side by the late President Atta Mills 11 years ago?
This one both parties are to be blamed
Former President Akuffo Addo and President Mahama are not new politicians.
John Mahama got his first official political post in 1996, when he was elected to the Parliament of Ghana to represent the Bole/Bamboi Constituency.
Everything that has happened from 1996, he was a political leader and he knew and he stated solutions even in opposition.
We will face the same flooding next year smh!!
