@KristinaRevay @StealthQE4 Luddite, regressive, scarcity love. Disgusting, anti-human, anti-growth, anti-future mindset. Things should get cheaper, better, and abundant. Do you also think kids shouldn't have more than a few toys?

@StealthQE4 In the ‘80’s round trip coach fare from coast to coast was $350 and West Coast to Europe was $1200. People have been enjoying air travel at way too low a cost for way too long. Higher prices would stop such profligate waste of resources and make a trip something special again.

@ValDelamere @number_pizza111 And a lot of it also just that the genome is more complicated than imagined, even taking out epigenetics. It’s not clean, there’s no “heart attack at 50” gene, there’s broad gene trends but those are synonymous to the demographic/family history trends we already knew.

@number_pizza111 i'm not sure what the reason is but a few ideas off the dome are: epigenetics mattering more than expected, clinical trials taking forever, the incentives for making money from drugs not aligning with trialling certain things, etc

It's pretty weird how little this has impacted anything. If you told someone in 1995 that it would cost $50 to sequence your entire genome, they'd expect that we could catch diseases before they happened and live decades longer.
Max Marchione@maxmarchione

The cost of sequencing a human genome dropped from $100M to less than $100 in about 25 years. That's a million-fold decrease, which outpaces even Moore's Law. We're about to enter the era of personalized medicine.

@the_transit_guy Keep the park, put the bike lanes on the road. Think Boston’s Comm Ave but with significantly better bike lane protection. Bike lanes in walking areas, especially in NYC, have always just been disasters as they are co-opted by delivery drivers on mopeds.

Park Avenue used to have a park in the median of it, hence it's name. It's time to bring that back.

@friendchristoph Hey the framing is completely objective, they base their stories on the quotes they get. The most objective part is how they only interview the people who attend the community meetings.

the globe’s editorial page is constantly banging on the need for more housing but the minute new housing is proposed their news reporters take the NIMBY-est possible framing available. you are the problem!

@PanasonicDX4500 @DanteTheDon From what I’ve understood. It’s still privately funded. The house and senate need to authorize it to be built. I would rather the private funding go directly towards the debt rather than a ballroom but I’m pretty sure this still isn’t being funded by taxes

Am I the only one who remembers a year ago when a bunch of teenagers said we had to cut the funding to like Sesame Street and AIDS prevention because we were on the verge of financial collapse? Did we all just imagine that?
Acyn@Acyn

Lindsey Graham says they are going introduce legislation that’s going to authorize 400 million dollars to be spent on building the ballroom: We pay for it by offsetting it with customs fees. The sooner we get the ballroom built, the better it is for the country.

@HCH_Hill No you absolutely should if you happen to be required by law to operate long-distance service *and* make a profit while also not being given the funding to invest in your own infrastructure and instead have to rely on freight-owned, they're doing really well with that

Something I noticed in this chart: Trump's disapproval rating is now worse than his personal unfavorable rating in a meaningful sense for an extended period for the first time ever. There are now people who see Trump as a good man but a bad president like Jimmy Carter.
