@StealthQE4 In the ‘80’s round trip coach fare from coast to coast was $350 and West Coast to Europe was $1200. People have been enjoying air travel at way too low a cost for way too long. Higher prices would stop such profligate waste of resources and make a trip something special again.

@ValDelamere @number_pizza111 And a lot of it also just that the genome is more complicated than imagined, even taking out epigenetics. It’s not clean, there’s no “heart attack at 50” gene, there’s broad gene trends but those are synonymous to the demographic/family history trends we already knew.

@number_pizza111 i'm not sure what the reason is but a few ideas off the dome are: epigenetics mattering more than expected, clinical trials taking forever, the incentives for making money from drugs not aligning with trialling certain things, etc

It's pretty weird how little this has impacted anything.
If you told someone in 1995 that it would cost $50 to sequence your entire genome, they'd expect that we could catch diseases before they happened and live decades longer.

Something I noticed in this chart: Trump's disapproval rating is now worse than his personal unfavorable rating in a meaningful sense for an extended period for the first time ever. There are now people who see Trump as a good man but a bad president like Jimmy Carter.
