I've been in the Brussels bubble too long - I just googled "compass" and was confused when I got results for actual compasses, not the EU Competitiveness Compass I was looking for

Women are disproportionately impacted by climate change, so when gender equality comes up at COP, it cannot be side-lined. My take on this and a wrap up of COP29 news with @SamJamesMorgan for The Jolt Rundown
FORESIGHT Climate & Energy@Foresight_CE

What are the chances of #COP delegates brokering a deal on climate finance? Why is it important that any agreement is about quality and equality as well as quantity? And why is Kira dreaming about interviewing politicians? In today’s episode of The Jolt, @SamJamesMorgan and @KiraTaylor15 dig into this week’s energy transition talking points. foresightmedia.com/story/srmNJTDD…

Industrial decarbonisation is a tricky part of the energy transition, but it is essential in helping to tackle the climate crisis, boosting competitiveness and preserving jobs. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution, with different technologies, including heat pumps and green fuels, potentially playing a role. Antoine Koen from think tank Future Cleantech Architects joins @KiraTaylor15 on The Jolt to preview his paper about industrial decarbonisation, which will be released tomorrow. Plus get a sneak peek at an episode of Watt Matters with Richard Hart from The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) for an Energy-Efficient Economy on the topic. Many European Union countries are behind when it comes to mapping and utilising their critical raw materials. Under the new Critical Raw Materials Act, they will need to take stock of what resources they have. This is where planes could come in helpful, allowing large areas to be mapped at once. Victor Gonzalez and Rodrigo del Potro from airborne geophysics company Xcalibur Smart Mapping join Kira Taylor on The Jolt to explain more. Batteries can help solve grid woes and combat renewables’ variability. But they have their own challenges, particularly when it comes to the supply chain, integrating them into the grid and increasing the amount of power you can store. In Wednesday’s episode of The Jolt, @KiraTaylor15 looks at the battery technology that could help power the energy transition Denis Geoffroy, chief commercialisation officer at @NanoOne_NANO , which is looking at how to diversify battery production away from China, and Vincent David, vice president of deployment and operations at EVLO Energy storage energy storage, join The Jolt to discuss the world of batteries. Plus Japan’s net zero initiative gets bogged down in fossil fuels. Link to the episode: lnkd.in/deQq_vh8

The European Union is striving to boost its competitiveness in the race to net-zero emissions. One potential solution could be unlocking funding by uniting Europe’s spending power. In today’s episode of The Jolt, @KiraTaylor15 looks at how stronger investment links between European Union countries could help boost its energy transition. The Capital Markets Union initiative is designed to do this, but it needs more work. So is it the answer? Or should the EU focus on other ways to get the investment it needs? Neil Makaroff, director of European think tank Strategic Perspectives, and Naomi Chevillard, head of regulatory affairs at SolarPower Europe, join The Jolt to discuss the EU’s investment challenge and whether the Capital Markets Union is the answer. “By 2030 it will be even €1.5 trillion needed in the net zero transition. So the challenge of financing this is massive,” Neil Makaroff, Director, Strategic Perspectives Plus Greta Thunberg gets arrested while calling on the EU to scrap fossil fuel subsidies. Circularity is a great way to secure supplies for the energy transition and reduce exploration and mining needs. But what is needed to boost recycling of materials like copper and reduce the emissions from the whole sector? In today’s episode of The Jolt,@KiraTaylor15 looks into circularity in the energy transition supply chain, plus the United States invests in resuscitating nuclear power. Hitachi geologist Jonathan Knapp joins the 200th episode of The Jolt for the second part of the conversation about critical raw materials. “True Scope 3 starts at the mine. And we think that there’s a huge opportunity here for not just social and climate responsibility, but also for us to be able to have the quality of goods,” Jonathan Knapp, Hitachi Download to listen: qrco.de/bfBT4O hashtag#EnergyTransition hashtag#CircularEconomy hashtag#Mining hashtag#Sustainability
