After putting the toddler to bed and then tidying the house, I like to unwind with a selection of Mount Eerie songs about putting the toddler to bed and then tidying the house

Sometimes you buy a book on the strength of the title alone

I love thinking about books, I love writing about books, I almost wish I had been impressionable enough to become an academic

Did not know that The Song Cave published a sort of Bookworm Greatest Hits collection a few years back, and will now take it upon myself to get one into every home in America.

Truly horrible week for literary discourse on here. We are all dumber for having endured these conversations.

Back in 2017 the first staff pick I ever wrote as a bookseller was for Coover’s Universal Baseball Association and I only ever sold one copy of it (to @ZIssenberg, by complete chance). With this new NYRB reissue, I think we can get that number up to two copies!

@roryisconfused No see Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is also a book of apocalyptic severity. Why else is that one cat’s name a play on “Mephistopheles”

I do like her a lot but I read this Louise Glück essay where she criticised T.S. Eliot for the lack of tonal variety across his poems, which is less true of Eliot than any poet I can think of whilst also being a valid criticism of Louise Glück

I had a dream last night that the room was full of water, but I had learned to hold my breath for extreme lengths of time, because I am often in rooms full of water. My two year old had a dream about “sprinkles”

@alvinlu It reminded me of the actual lattice structure of a radio tower! Intersections at various points, and in between them, the sky

@norabird In one of the Struggles, Knausgaard talks about how Fosse ripping him to shreds in a workshop, saying “there is only one good word in this entire poem,” and so for the next class Knausgaard turned in a poem that was exactly this

@oh_tuntun Sandorf Passage has been quietly assembling one of the best catalogs in small press publishing and I love seeing anyone pick up their titles

Something almost charmingly retro about an alt-lit poem where the title does the heavy lifting and explains the concept of an otherwise unremarkable piece. Sort of like watching a Vine, or seeing a “Feel The Bern” bumper sticker.
