@sidecartridge I agree that Discord is a pretty shit place for technical resources. Any useful bits of information get swallowed in the noise. Discourse is great (or one of the existing forums as Alexh mentioned) and much more appropriate IMO.

Closing the Discord wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thing. If the X post was not clear enough, more details below. This project is personal. That’s just how it is. And here’s the part people either ignore or pretend not to understand. Once a discussion stops being about the topics and turns into attacking the person, it’s useless. It doesn’t matter if you call it “radical candor”, “community culture”, "truth coping", or whatever buzzword is popular this week. Personal attacks don’t fix bugs, don’t improve designs, and don’t make anything better. They just make the environment worse. Also, no, I’m not immune to it. Nobody is. You post less, you engage less, and eventually you leave. That’s exactly what happened here. Since it keeps coming up, I’m not a hardware engineer by training. I’m a computer scientist. I’ve spent decades building software products, which for those who haven’t done it involves a lot more than writing code. You deal with requirements, design, architecture, users, support, releases, infrastructure, all the boring parts that actually make things work. Hardware was no different. I learned it because I wanted to build something real. No formal background, no pretending otherwise. But the boards exist, they work, people use them, and the projects have been alive for years. That’s what matters. That still wasn’t enough for some people, so they attacked my professional background and achievements. Just dumb. Those are exactly what let me walk away from professional IT. I’m in the position to choose where I spend my time. Now, about what changes. Discord is going away. That decision is final. Also, chat apps are a terrible place for knowledge. Anything useful gets buried, and if you weren’t there at the right time, it’s gone. So the plan is to move to something more traditional. Most likely Discourse forum. Information should be public, searchable, and indexable, including by search engines and AI tools. Mixing support and social chat doesn’t work. It creates noise, confusion, and the expectation that everything happens in real time. Gone. That’s it.

@qsdnl @josesaezmerino Firefox is better than Chrome wrt the "20 identical favicons", since it refuses to shrink them beyond a certain amount, so at least you get a few letters. I have so many open that it's easier to use Ctrl-shift-A (or Ctrl-L % in Firefox) to incrementally search open tab titles.

@josesaezmerino you can see what the fuck your tabs even are instead of having to switch through 20 identical favicons for the one you want and unless you're using multiple windows/split view most sites just waste all the horizontal space you give them anyway
