I like and respect @patrickbetdavid. Despite our clear disagreements on Israel (I’m not pro-Israel), it’s undeniable that he’s built a media empire with viewership that rivals or surpasses much of the mainstream. That’s impressive. That said, with the Iran war dominating headlines and multiple recent PBD panels leaning heavily pro-war, I believe it’s time the @PBDsPodcast brings on a strong voice that can effectively push back and offer a different perspective. A balanced debate would serve the audience well, many viewers are looking for it, and good-faith disagreement always makes for better content.

@msouthern17 @bamaperspective @HumpDaHump Nothing wrong at all with the system. But the system has to have better parts. The style of play is fine.

Seeing a lot of bad hot takes about Nate Oats' system ("live and die by the 3," "will never win a national title with this style"). I get that Labaron Philon is a Top 20 (or better) NBA draft choice. Our personnel is good. But it's Top 25 type good. Not Top 12-14 good. The "system," or Nate Oats' coaching, has us playing over our collective talent level. Also ... we don't just chuck 3s and pray. Our goal is to get to the rim as much as possible by spreading the floor with shooters and pushing in transition as much as possible. Sometimes teams without elite rim protection press out on the 3-point line and we score a ton at the rim. Sometimes teams with great rim protection dare us to shoot and we shoot more 3s. Sometimes we drive to the rim and it isn't there but it gives us open 3-point jumpers. We play an NBA style with pace and space, with a team full of skilled, long players that can run up and down the court. This system can win a national title, but we need our personnel to be in the Top 10 rather than Top 25. We've had that once or twice (the Brandon Miller year, for example). Just gotta get the right year in terms of personnel. As it stands, we don't get the best talent even though we get very good talent. Against a team like Michigan that has arguably the best rim defense in the country and length everywhere, driving and kicking and getting spray 3s is our best chance to win as an underdog. Need some variance. But our strategy is different every game. And it's flexible to optimize for our opponents.
