@EZE3D Just explain those AI bros what "AI slop" means, and why the term emerged in the recent years.

I can't tell you how many AI bros try to convince people that no one cares about the process in art, only the end result. They are wrong, the end result is special entirely because of the process, people, stories and everything else involved in its creation.

@MrEwanMorrison Why the heck does Congress have the obligation to "understand AI technology"? Shouldn't it be the other way around that the AI should prove itself worthy of humankind—in order for Congress to accept it?

Fine, but the devil is in the detail here: "until congress better understands AI technology". Would Sanders have congress speak to the AI Doomer/Booster Yudkowsky? Or Amodei? Or Altman? Who will do this 'understanding'?
‎ً@am4rrt

🚨BREAKING: Bernie Sanders & AOC have introduced a bill that would completely halt construction of all U.S. data centers until Congress better understands AI technology. "Congress is way behind where it should be in understanding the nature of this revolution and its impacts."

@ThinPicking @tryfectaa When it comes to ASI, a misalignment is easier than you think, and the danger of a misaligned super-intelligence is that it can doom humankind. Period.

Dr. Émile P. Torres (they/them)
Yudkowsky keeps misrepresenting his own view, probably for PR reasons. He does NOT believe that "if anyone builds ASI, everyone dies." He believes that "if anyone builds misaligned ASI, everyone dies." He'd build ASI next week if he thought it was aligned. Don't be fooled.
Eliezer Yudkowsky@allTheYud

A challenge to @deanwball. Suppose you believed what I believe: If anyone builds ASI, everyone dies (modulo locally irrelevant caveats). Say that Sanders, Trump, Hawley, Blumenthal, and Jinping will all back your policy. What's a smart policy that actually blocks ASI?

@magiclanternco @nofilmschool Idiot. The problem isn't AI can tell a story (obviously it can). The problem is no human is interested in watching it because it's cheap slop. There's no human feeling within AI videos. The idea is doomed from the start. Get real and be human.

@nofilmschool The real question isn't whether AI video won over creators. It's whether it helped any creator tell a story they couldn't have told otherwise. That's the gap between a feature and a medium.

@LuizaJarovsky Do people finally realize the AI development resembles the Tower of Babel? An attempt to sum all human knowledge (including illegal ones) to race for a singularity (like reaching for heaven). Only to make the humankind worse.

🚨 Nobody can fully predict what two decades from now will look like. However, generative AI has already led to three important divides that are starting to shape society. As we saw with social media, some of the societal implications are likely irreversible. My full article:

@GaryMarcus @chatgpt21 Humans in USA don't reach 99% skill for driving yet we let them on the road. Actually >30% cannot even drive properly and/or distracted driving.. so if AI isn't 100% perfect, it's still orders of magnitude better than humans

@GaryMarcus Damn it. Why can't the laws be made any faster to demand such transparency? The point is, they should have admitted at the start, and for whoever operates the car remotely, laws should demand accountability from them.

@dreamosaurus Theft or not, the generated music is likely uncopyrightable so their "do not use it for commercial purposes" claim is unenforceable. To clarify, it might be still illegal to use it though, but the copyright is not on them, but the original artists whose music was plagiarized.

Every goddamn time I hear ambient fantasy music, it’s generative AI. Channel has 132 videos in 9 months. And their “we do not… deliberately imitate” is bs when slop datasets are all built on mass theft.

What I love the most about AI is watching the fake-AI mafia build a trillion-dollar, fake-AI castle in the air and trying to estimate when it will collapse into a pile of GPU dust and assorted tokens. 😬 I will dance in the streets when it happens. 🕺🎉🍾😀

@MrEwanMorrison The irony is, AI proponents like to criticise Hollywood and the film industry in order to push the belief that AI does innovate in this field.

The future has been cancelled. In your life you will live through an endless reboot of the highlights from 1980- 2010. There is no longer any need for new ideas or new writers or creators. Thanks to risk-averse algorithmic capitalism - we're entering a closed loop of the past.

@gmiller @jbrenizer @emad @DaveShapi Hint: The "abundance" claimed by AI proponents is a lie. The basic human needs, e.g. food and shelter, can't grow out of data centers. What AI produces is slop, while wasting tons of energy to do it.

@jbrenizer @emad @DaveShapi Suggest your two favorite things on this topic that I could read? I have read a fair amount on this topic, but so far most of it makes no sense at all. (I'm not an Econ expert, but I did a four year postdoc in an economics department, studying game theory).

Fun facts about data center jobs: A 1-billion watt AI data center can cost about $35 billion to build, covering 10 million square feet, using about 5,000 temporary construction workers for 1-3 years. But once it's up and running, it'll employ only about 500 people. That's about as many as two Walmart stores. By contrast, the Ford Highland Park Plant automobile factory in Detroit (operating 1910-1974) was 4 million square feet, and employed about 50,000 workers. If you think big facilities automatically mean lots of jobs, you're not understanding just how automated these data centers are. AI lobbyists often promise that data centers will 'create lots of permanent new jobs'. Politicians funded by the AI industry echo these promises. Both are lying to you.

@gmiller @emad @DaveShapi That’s why I suggested you look at Post Labor Economics seriously. It addresses how the masses still get income without labor. I know, sounds like magic. But so does antiobiotic efficacy until you understand the science.
