Long time no podcast. Yes! We've been busy bees! Don’t worry, it hasn’t fallen by the wayside. We're getting our house in order, preparing for Season 3 in September. Until then, don't forget us, drop us a line any time, and make sure you're subscribed on your fave podplayer

Word-trivia of the day: 'umbrage' looks back to the French 'ombrage', shade from the heat of the sun. To give umbrage was to upset someone/darken their lives by 'throwing shade'; to take it was to be duly offended.

Our mangled idioms: head over heels (originally 'heels over head') have your cake and eat it (originally 'eat your cake and have your cake') a matter of life and death ('life OR death') cheap at half the price ('cheap at twice the price') and...don't eat with your mouth full.

The word that's shuffling to mind this morning: 'dringle', to waste time in a lazy, lingering manner. (Not to be confused with 'spuddling', which is pretending that a trivial task in in fact incredibly important.)

A small piece of etymology for the day: the expression ‘turn a blind eye’ to something is from the Battle of Copenhagen of 1801, when Horatio Nelson deliberately avoided seeing his commander’s signal to withdraw by putting his blind eye to the telescope. His fleet was victorious.

Got home to this Muppet-faced man and said "hey my good boy - how are you doing" and for some reason Google Home answered with "flat out like a lizard drinking". So that was weird.
