@ClaudeNaggar Liability: owner buys insurance, Tesla covers livery insurance when dispatched as part of their 25% cut. Tesla sets up the geofence and runs the app. Costs to owner, just like Uber. That is why surge pricing. This is Uber without the risk of a passenger assaulting. More cars.

Personal robotaxi fleets sound great on paper. But who accepts depreciation, wear, strangers, geofencing limits, and liability? If the autonomous system fails, is the owner responsible? Scaling is not a spreadsheet.
Dog Owner. No crypto.@external_idea

@ClaudeNaggar Waymo will have a challenge. Either unmet demand spilling to competition, due to lack of peak vehicles or added cost of low utilization. Tesla Robotaxi will bribe owners to dispatch. Surge can only economically be met by casual (not full time) vehicles.

@mayhemproto @Gfilche @robotaxi @nuro I'm asking for data and numbers. I've watched Waymo, Pony, and Tesla struggles through initial autonomy. Anyone who thinks autonomous vehicles in heavy utilization is easy and will just happen is not being realistic. A tough situation to qualify. Nuro must not pull a Cruise.

@external_idea @Gfilche @robotaxi @nuro Nuro is launching commercial in SF end of the year. Clearly your cult keeps you uneducated. All of you Tesla cultists will weep and gnash your teeth when Lucid Robotaxi is scaled more than Tesla within 6 months.

🤔 Waymo just tripled its subscription. Why? Every robotaxi is an asset depreciating 24/7, earning or not. Adding cars to meet peak demand can create more idle capacity off-peak. Uber’s driver network flexes with demand 🚗

@JohnShep293 @Tesler914 Cybercab is designed for $0.20/mile service ($0.12/km). That changes the model. Teslas are reliable and durable and Cybercab has been designed for simplicity, durability, ease of maintenance, and cleaning. Not to mention a huge trunk. Tough economic competition.

@Tesler914 If Uber could mass produce its own vehicles for $25K each, reduced their fuel costs to 1/3, eliminate most maintance, all its drivers drive for free and it had the funds to scale indefinitely their valuation would go to $5-13T. This is what Tesla robotaxi will be able to do.

There is the problem. Nuro is years away from being Robotaxi ready. Tesla will get out Robotaxi at scale soon. This feels like all the wanna be smartphone companies years ago. Only two thrived. I see Waymo, Robotaxi, Baidu, and maybe Pony.ai. x.com/i/grok/share/6…

@mayhemproto @Gfilche @robotaxi How have the qualified there software? Please educate me. Inform me, via links of your research. This is a tough problem. Passing Waymo, the current benchmark, won't be easy. Then Tesla. How?

@mayhemproto @Gfilche @robotaxi Lucid needs to qualify their L4. You do not suddenly surpass without work. For Tesla, that is billions of miles of data and huge AI data centers to process and train. I haven't seen Lucid doing enough.

@Deandawiz California is being political. Trying to protect Waymo. Meh, they'll fall behind. Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arizona, Nevada, and Utah will thrive. Other Southern states will join. That is enough.

Florida will be the california to teslas robotaxi ambitions. Big, vibrant, populated but also receptive to autonomy. California is not as receptive to autonomy but theyll come around.

@TMFAssociates @ex_liberal_1990 @Danteawaw Why would Tesla absolve you if insurance responsibility for daily driving? That makes no business sense. In Robotaxi duty, they will take responsibility for crashes once you dispatch to earn fares. A very different business case.

@ex_liberal_1990 @Danteawaw My point about FSD is that if Tesla won't (can't?) take responsibility for crashes, then it will remain Level 2 and they'll lose to Waymo in the robotaxi market, which was supposed to be the key source of value here

@niccruzpatane 219 HP for just over 3100lb bests a 1988 Honda Accord EXi (124 HP vs. base 99 HP). Due to the absence of gearing, that is on demand power that is excellent. More than Grandma want in a taxi ride.

Tesla Cybercab looks pretty quick lol. It weighs 3,113 pounds and has 219 hp. Not bad for a purpose-built Robotaxi.

I checked out the new @Rivian R2 in person today for the first time. As a total package, I think Rivian really did a great job with this car. Here are my first impressions: Exterior: I think most people will have a hard time noticing the difference between the larger R1 and smaller R2, which is a compliment. It’s a great-looking SUV. Boxy designs aren’t the most efficient, but man, do they look good. It’s only when you get up close that the smaller size of the R2 becomes more obvious. The R2 is ~15" shorter than the R1. The rear drop glass is a cool feature, especially if you have dogs (there aren't any cargo area air vents). The 21" Performance wheels look good, although I think the 20" Black Sand All-Terrain wheels look even better (despite the 23-mile range hit). It has a native NACS port placed perfectly on the rear left side. The charge port door is shaped like a leaf, a nice subtle touch. The frunk is pretty large for a vehicle of this size (5.2 cu ft). The hood has some pretty firm resistance when you initially start to put it back down. While the hood isn't powered open/close, it does soft-close. Interior: Let's start with the trunk. As I said earlier, boxy designs aren't the most efficient, but one of the benefits they bring is more cargo space, and that extra space is definitely noticeable vs. my 2026 Model Y (18.5% more, including the frunk). In total, the R2 has 90 cu ft of cargo capacity vs. 76 for the Model Y. The R2 (186") is about 2.7" shorter than the Model Y. One thing I don't like is that you have to lean far forward and press a button on the on the top of the second-row seats to fold them down, or you just walk around to each side of the car and do it that way. Ideally, there would just be a button closer to you on the side panel of the cargo area. The sub trunk is nice and deep. The 120V outlet in the cargo area is something I wish I had in my Model Y, especially since my car doesn't have V2L capability. The second row had plenty of legroom, and the seats are mostly comfortable. However, I did notice that the top of the seatback protrudes out enough that it dug into my back, which was pretty uncomfortable. In general, though, the second row is a nice place to be. I've seen some people comment that the R2's interior feels cheap. I actually disagree with that. I think the material quality is fine for this price level. Yes, there's some hard plastics, but there's plenty of injection-molded areas with stitching, textile trim pieces, and wood. It's an aesthetically pleasing interior. The ambient lighting design is nice (although I prefer the Model Y's execution). The seats are comfortable, and the lumbar support is good. When it comes to the cooled seats, they work great, but I kept noticing a sort of low-level buzzing or vibrating feeling when I turned them on max. This is probably not something you'd notice while driving around, but it was definitely noticeable while parked. This was an issue in both the driver and passenger seat. The dual-screen setup is nice, and the software is quick to respond and relatively intuitive. I still prefer the Tesla ecosystem, but Rivian is certainly doing software better than any legacy automaker. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the adaptive scroll wheels on the steering wheel, but I love them. They feel create, and the tactile feedback is really satisfying. Lastly, the dual glove box/storage bin feature is awesome and useful. It's basically a second locked storage box. Self-driving: At this point, not having point-to-point self-driving like Tesla's FSD (Supervised) is a deal breaker for me for any car or brand. These days, nearly all of my miles are self-driving. It’s the ultimate feature. It has vastly transformed the way I travel. It makes long trips less exhausting and city driving less stressful. My 76-year-old mom goes on more trips now because she no longer has to drive. FSD drives for 98.5% of her miles. Every few weeks, I get a DM on 𝕏 from an 89-year-old who owns a Model Y. She likes to update me on her latest FSD usage, which makes up most of her miles too. This is a game-changing technology that is impossible to ignore today, and nobody but Tesla is offering anything close to this in the consumer market. It's been 1,000 miles since my last disengagement on Tesla FSD (Supervised). We have people in the community that have gone over 10,000 miles. The R2 vehicles out right now have the older autonomy hardware. Rivian's next-generation autonomy hardware suite - which will start shipping in the R2 early next year - will have 11 cameras, 5 radars, and a new front-facing LiDAR. Rivian said there is currently no plan for retrofits for current R2 owners. Something to keep in mind. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe did recently say, "Later this year, we'll have full supervised point-to-point, which will be very similar to @Tesla's FSD. That will roll out to all of our Gen 2 vehicles and, of course, R2." We will see. A big reason I feel a lot of people aren't interested in FSD is simply because they either haven't tried it or haven't given it a real chance. Driving impressions: I wasn't able to get any lol. Like the last time I was at the Rivian store, they didn't have any demo drive slots available. Maybe Rivian would agree to loan me one in the near future for a few days so I can do a full and thorough review (my DMs are open 😉). I hope the R2 sells well for Rivian and that they can make a profit from it because this product is really important for the company. I'd much rather Rivian stay an independent company rather than getting acquired by some legacy automaker down the line. They make great products, and I hope they succeed.
