@lostbutlucky Never really thought about it that way…but yeah makes sense. I was more thinking about big corps setting up shop in places like Canada and then using L1s to bring talent back.

The new H1B rules are bad for high-tech Americans (and current high-salary H1Bs)… but good for high-talent foreigners. Here’s why 👇 Annual H1B cap = 85k 80% go to $70k/yr Infosys-type consultants → clogging the lottery with cheap labor Those workers never competed with us. Now they’ll be replaced by real competitors Big Tech can suddenly hire 5x more high-talent foreigners Over 3–5 yrs, expect 10–15% lower salary trajectory at the high end vs a world where Infosys kept lottery odds low

@CDInewsletter It’s like the whole QT just woke up, but it’s kinda too late. Where they’ve been in the past few months when great promos from WS were creating a massive exodus.

After 20+ years with Qtrade, I'm moving to Wealthsimple. QT gave awful service on an account transfer (in), so I'm leaving. I'll get a $10,000+ bonus, far better UI, and tons of other perks. Suggest y'all do the same, especially if you're unhappy with your current broker.

@Damian_Canada @MatthewIwama @MarcMillerVM People earning pay rates from the 90s are not “high tech” people at all…do you have any ideas how much a typical Waterloo CS grad are getting paid straight out of school these days?

@MatthewIwama @MarcMillerVM We dont need them. There is an insane oversaturation of "high tech" people to the point where IT jobs are offfering pay rates from the 1990s. We dont need MORE of those people, let them go back. It isnt abouy qualifications. It is about supply and demand.

Bezos is right. Bureaucracy suffocates innovation and must be eliminated.
KanekoaTheGreat@KanekoaTheGreat

NEW: Jeff Bezos says he's 'very optimistic' about the incoming Trump administration, offering to help streamline regulations and dismissing concerns about Elon Musk leveraging government power against competitors. "I'm actually very optimistic this time around. He seems to have a lot of energy around reducing regulation and from my point of view, if I can help him do that, I'm going to help him because we do have too many regulations in this country." "If you look at the national debt and how gigantic it is as a portion of GDP, these are real long-term problems, and the way we get out of them is by outgrowing them. You're going to solve the problem of the national debt by making it a smaller percentage of GDP. Not by shrinking the national debt but by growing the GDP. You have to grow the denominator, and that means you have to grow GDP at, you know, 3, 4, or 5 percent a year." "If you can do that, this is a very manageable problem. So we need a growth orientation in this country. The most important thing is a growth mindset. And we are the luckiest country in the world. We have all these natural resources, including energy independence. We have the best risk capital system in the world..." "But we are burdened by excessive permitting and regulation. You can't build a bridge, and we see these examples all the time. I'm very optimistic that President Trump is serious about this regulatory agenda, and I think that he has a good chance of succeeding..." "You've probably grown in the last eight years. He has, too. What I've seen so far is that he is calmer than he was the first time, more confident, and more settled." @elonmusk @realDonaldTrump @JeffBezos

@mortimer_1 This…is not bad actually. A couple years back Microsoft Vancouver is paying 85k CAD to a new grad engineer, while the same role could be paid up to 150k usd in the states. The gap has significantly narrowed after Covid and I am greatful for it
