It depends on the game, in Skyrym I cannot play as a female dragonborn, it just doesn't feel right. Same for Cyberpunk 2077, playing as male V feels weird.
I remember playing AC:Odyssey as Alexios up until the point Kassandra is revealed to be alive and working with the bad guys; something didn't click for me, so started a new save as Kassandra and that was it, seeing Alexios in that role made more sense.
In Darksouls 3 I always play a female ashen one because I like male Anri more than female Anri.
I like that Helldivers 2 gives you the option to randomize the gender of your diver every time you respawn.

I can confirm this actually. Very few women interested in me in my adult life and that's almost certainly due to my love of videogames. I think my wife and children also scare them off.

I know this is unpopular, but it will always be unattractive for a grown man to play video games. Some women might be understanding or pretend like they don’t care that you spend hours playing, but they do. It is extremely unattractive to women and will never not be. 🤷🏼♀️
