Brian Windhorst says there’s potential for a Giannis-Jaylen Brown trade: “Of course it makes sense for Milwaukee. Of course the Bucks are monitoring this very closely and would be getting ready to call Boston.” (via @GetUpESPN, h/t @CelticsUnite18)

@flasportsbuzz Those statements, along with their recent actions/non actions have given fans the impression that those high standards have changed. As per your viral interpretation, they are happy fielding what they deem as a competitive team, they won their titles.

One final Heat/Riley thought before I go back to writing 206 more Dolphins draft stories: There has been a lot of excuse making in the league in recent days - Doc Rivers saying he was given only 1 superstar when other teams have 2 or 3; Denver's David Adelman suggesting nothing can be done when his top players shoot as poorly as last night; Houston's Ime Udoka blaming embarrassing 3-0 hole against Lakers on youth and wondering if his players were scared. Riley is the gold standard for sports executives and done incredible things, but I hope there's an admission that there needs to be openness to new ways of team building and no excuse making (injuries, Jimmy, everyone else tanking so regression was natural). Anyway, carry on.

@5ReasonsSports You’re assuming that this team is more of a contender next year? Because if it’s the same type of team as this season then you absolutely move him if you can get anything of value back lol

One thing that is apparent in studying the Heat's on-off and other numbers is that Davion Mitchell had a very good season. He was second to Bam with a +4.2 net rating and most lineups were better with him in it. Last year of contract: wouldn't move him if you don't have to.

@flasportsbuzz Spo saying this is his equivalent of something Doc Rivers would say. It’s a ridiculous excuse for a team that’s just not good.

With Celtics, it's killing Miami with talent and spreading the floor and shooting a billion threes... with Raptors and Magic, it's a size and length deficit and an inability to break down their top wing defenders. So a talent & personnel issue. Unfortunate.
Anthony Chiang@Anthony_Chiang

Heat is 0-12 vs. Raptors, Celtics and Magic this season. Erik Spoelstra referred to that this morning after shootaround in Toronto, saying: "There's three teams we haven't beaten, so we're focusing on this. If you just wiped out, which you can't do, those three teams, we have a damn good record."

@flasportsbuzz @wcgoldberg But can you really compare the Spurs to the Wizards on an organizational level? Assuming the Heat would become the Kings for 20 years is silly, and chalking it all up to luck is wrong. We all know they can create a 9th seed play-in roster in their sleep if that was their goal.

@wcgoldberg Bingo. Wizards haven't won playoff series since 70s. There's no magical fix

@HeatCulture13 Great @BannedMacMahon , he’s the 3rd best player in the NBA. We’re comparing him scoring 60 vs a guy who most wouldn’t rank in their top 30 to get above 60 let alone 83? No one is surprised Luka scored 60 this season. The world was shocked by Bam dropping 83.

Tim MacMahon says Luka’s 60 points were more impressive than Bam’s 83: “That 60 I’m sorry, that was more impressive than Bam’s 83 vs a tanking team. That 60 when you needed all 60 to win a 21/22 hour turn around back to back against a team that is trying to make the playoffs” (Via @BannedMacMahon)

@ThaCreekFreak @flasportsbuzz I agree that’s a good analogy. But if the NBA is saying “my bad” but the Hornets did nothing wrong, then the NBA should issue a compensatory second rounder. In this case, the Hornets are getting punished, which in a sense admits wrongdoing by the Hornets lol

@ezpz613 @flasportsbuzz Think of it as a big corporation making a settlement with someone without admitting wrongdoing to just make it go away. Still dumb, but not surprising

You could make compelling cases for saying that Heat has underachieved OR played exactly to their talent level. The case for their record being a true reflection of what they are: They don't have All NBA 1st, 2nd, 3rd team player.... The case for them underachieving: Why is Boston without Tatum 20 over .500 and Heat is 3 over? Why is Toronto 10 over and Heat 3 over? Case can be made either way.

Dan & Mike Ryan ready to have the Tomlin/John Harbaugh conversation on Spo (while not advocating a change). Obviously, Spo is one of the best in the business; GMs consistently name him best coach in the sport and he should coach as long as he wants here. But it's hard to reconcile the team's record for 3 years WITH THE FACT the front office and Spo say or think the team has been better than its record for 3 years. Anyway, all moot. Spo will be here forever, and would get dozen of offers instantly if let go.

@flasportsbuzz The coaching has very little to do with the lack of talent on the roster. Is the team expected to have a contender record without a top 30 player on the team? How many teams without a top player are in contention or even in the top 6 in each conference?

There's a window now, with team at full strength, to become the team that management thinks they can be. At the very least, they should be better than at least one team ahead of them (Toronto). They're better than 76ers when Embiid is out.
Anthony Chiang@Anthony_Chiang

Tyler Herro will play off the bench in his return. Heat going with a starting lineup of Davion Mitchell, Norman Powell, Pelle Larsson, Andrew Wiggins and Bam Adebayo tonight vs. Hawks.

They weren't offered a first for Powell or Wiggins, so they decided simply to keep them and try to make a run this year. Remember, they see their roster differently than many fans do. They see a team that when healthy, inserting Herro's offense, can play with anyone. The 2 wins against Knicks and beating OKC and Denver fuel this hope. Spo himself says this team has high ceiling, though many fans disagree

People need to understand there is no column or question in a press conference -- or anything at all -- that will change Heat's repulsion and firm opposition to tanking. As Riley once said: "The teams that do it three or four years in a row to get lottery picks? I’d be in an insane asylum. The fans would be, too. Who wants that?”
AJ@miamiheatrants

@flasportsbuzz “We didn’t tank often. Only a few times over 23 years, but when we did, our fans appreciated it. And it got us to where we could improve, trade up to get Luka and improve our team.” Barry, Can you bring this up in the annual Pat Riley presser please?
