so many intelligent people still cling to the idea that everything the ai labs do is downstream of IPO hype or whatever. some kinds of intelligentsia are uniquely unsuited for the moment because their lens is “strategic skepticism” where normal people can employ magical thinking

one of the things I love so much about my son is that he is just so happy all the time. he is truly always smiling and yelling with exuberance. I didn't think it was possible to have such a high level of baseline joy.

EMA is such a strong technique for pre-training. You can spend 1.5x more compute and get 0.01 eval loss improvement or just apply EMA at final stages of cooldown and consistently get the same result.

Josh Baer died last night. He founded Capital Factory and built the Austin startup community, then helped it spread across Texas. He gave first, always. I wrote down what he meant to me.

lost a friend today. Still processing all of it.
Just two days ago I ended a call telling Josh how I appreciated him as a friend, after we reminisced about our work together for so many years. He touched many lives. Inexplicable, how fragile all of this is.
