@Kellblog I agree that income tax is fine, but the washington in badly designed. It is very concentrated on a limited number of people, with probably the majority in tech. At the same time the seattle tech ecosystem is struggling with Amazon and Microsoft doing regular rounds of layoffs.

It costs money to run a state; someone needs to pay for it. Most no-income tax states backfill with sales tax, property tax, and some sector tax (e.g., oil, tourism, gaming). Washington didn't implement a wealth tax, they implemented state income tax. Going from 0% to 10% overnight seems political suicide. But 41 states has income taxes. The others backfill in some way.
