@Aella_Girl Maybe it's my ADHD, but to me it seems in listening to anything, my brain is constantly 'just autocompleting'. All inputs/environments work this way for me: I take the input, refine conceptual phase space, then output a reply based on my training. Thinking is 'simpy autocomplete'

AI is clearly very intelligent. I don't understand how someone can work with the models in any sort of depth and think it's 'simply autocomplete.'

@taherdhanera he's a movie director. he prompts other artists for their output, then selects the parts he likes best. we now live in the world where other folks who can't afford to pay other people, can do what he does, and that means people aren't gonna pay him as much to do it anymore

Guillermo del Toro - That's what people think animation is. Giving prompts and the computer does it. Now, but AI has demonstrated that you can do semi compelling screensavers. That's, essentially that. And I think that, the value of art is not how much it costs and how little effort it requires. It's how much you would you risk to be in its pressence. You know? What would you do to be in the presence of 'STARRY NIGHT' at Musée d'Orsay? Would you stand in line for three hours? Yes. And then you would have five minutes in which you will be monumentally moved by that. You know? So, how much would people pay for those screensavers? Are they gonna make them, because they lost the will to create? Because they their prompts? F*** no. No. It's not gonna happen.

@DougTenNapel @GordonSBrooks It's the same spirit/sentiment leveled at every new genre, medium, or tech that threatens to unseat incumbents or upsets established heirarchies It happened when films started using sound, color too. It happened with TV, videogames, electronic music, etc, etc, etc

@GordonSBrooks That was true of nearly all 3D animation for 35 years. I made this argument when it mattered and nobody cared. If I somehow lived, you will too

When people told me they dreamed of writing a book I would ask “then why haven’t you?” Writing is accessible to nearly anyone for free so you don’t need Ai to write the great American novel. But when animators said they wanted to tell stories I knew the labor was generally too costly and not accessible to most of them. Ai will make animation as accessible as writing a book. When a tool opens up storytelling options to us it helps creation. Anything that removes excuses is a pretty good thing. Ai will help the best story win, not the people with the most connections, money or luck.

@DougTenNapel There's writing, and there's the ~Art of Writing~ AI is feared by established artists and artisans because they loathe having to compete with folks who didn't have to suffer for their craft. Opposition to emerging mediums/tools is anti-creative, ignorant, protectist, & elitist.

@TheMG3D A medium translates an internal human thought/feeling/vision so it can be conveyed to other humans. Maybe it's slop to most, but as long as what is producd accomplishes that task, as long as the target audience can grasp a glimmer of what is trying to be expressed.... that's art.

Do you consider anything AI generated to be art? I’m very curious on what people’s thoughts are on this topic and their reasons for why they believe if it is or isn’t

@sissboombaba @DaveShapi Like the discovery electricity could do work... we now have a force everyone can tap into to do things more efficiently, and do things nobody ever imagined. The whole world has access to Universal Basic Intelligence. It's not just a tool, it's the biggest change in human history

@DaveShapi I believed you & strawberry for a while. Now I’m like “meh”. AI is great. But it’s just a tool. People will still be born, play, eat, shit, love and die. And yes work. Things will change but not as much as you people think. Most people don’t care about coding. It’s just a tool.

@DaveShapi If your impression of what gamers want is based on social media, people employed by big studios, livestreamers, reviewers, etc... then it's not real. those folks aren't playing games, they're creating content to drive engagement. real gamers just want good games

@TheCinesthetic The more I hear about how Quentin treats people and talks about people the less I like him. I mean, he's always been overrated. But he's kind of a parody of the "asshole director" archetype.

@Variety @grok Remind me, how many sequels, prequels, reboots, and remakes the American film industry has made over the past 25 years? Also, does this number correlate in any way to the steady drop in movie attendance over the same time period?

#TildaSwinton says AI doesn’t pose a threat to filmmakers making movies that aren’t “formulaic” or “tiring for the audience”: “As long as what we’re producing isn’t formulaic and in some way tiring for the audience, AI doesn’t have a chance,” Swinton said during a conversation at #Cannes. “But as long as we can continue to do that, then we have to watch out.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lHiI4
