NCAA men’s tennis Sweet 16 snapshot — by my count:
20 American starters in 96 singles spots.
12 from just two teams: Stanford and Ohio State.
That leaves 8 American starters across the other 14 teams.
The issue is the overall numbers — and what they mean for American players below the elite level.
@PatrickMcEnroe Are these whiny adults parents of kids who can’t play D1 or can’t play at all? Hard to believe a kid who wants to play can’t find a spot somewhere.
@PatrickMcEnroe Before today, I would have said it’s BS for a foreigner to play a sport as a pro overseas then come here to play in college, but it’s a little disingenuous given that they will get paid to play here…
@SportsSturm please brush up on your NCAA tourney history. In 1989, Bill Frieder agreed to coach ASU causing Bo Schembechler to famously proclaim, "A Michigan man will coach Michigan, not an Arizona State man.”
@ESpitzRadio The natives are restless. When are we going to get more of @PatrickMcEnroe? He has a loyal legion of listeners and callers and we can get more from the infamous thread. LFG!!
So one of our good buds, the great @ArnettRick, sent me this pic of this sweet girl. She was found by a HWY, no chip, no tags. Some jerk dumped her. Rick’s friend saw her and rescued her from certain death. She is VERY SWEET dog.Looking for a new home. Reach out to Rick. Thank U!
@PeteNakos You’ve reported that Brendan Sorsby’s “NIL deal with the Red Raiders is worth $5 million”. Schools don’t have NIL deals - companies do. Schools have “revenue share”. Quit confusing people with the wrong terminology. Be better.
@AdamSchein Taking a shot here:
A team’s record is frozen once eliminated and draft order set by winning% (eliminates being rewarded for continuing to lose or punished for winning).
Tiebreaker is post-elimination winning% with the team with the higher % getting the 1st pick.
One for the slow golfers out there:
If you play in over 4 hours at Sleepy Hollow (and many other clubs of stature) you will get your name posted for the whole club to see.
Is this a fair punishment?
To the slow golfers, do you still think it’s okay to be slow?
Does the fact that great golf clubs would punish you for slow play finally make you consider that maybe you are a problem?
Keep in mind, this doesn’t mean you have to rush. It just means being ready to hit and not acting like you are trying to win a major with every 3 footer.
@ESPNFANSUPPORT I just signed up for ESPN Select because of your dispute with YouTube TV but I can’t access any content because my provider is TV provider is YouTube TV. I want my money back, please.
@ESpitzRadio You really need to give @PatrickMcEnroe an expanded role on Mad Dog Radio. He knows his sports and engages with the callers like Doggie. LFG!!!
Paul Azinger takes a shot at Rory McIlroy’s Ryder Cup behaviour:
“Today in the press conference he said ‘I think golf should be held to a higher standard of decorum. But in the meantime he says ‘f-you, f-you, f-you’ in full voice for the world to see.
“He turns around and says to the guy ‘shut the f up’. The guy in the media today asks him ‘how did it feel Rory to tell the guy to shut the f up and then hit it to feet’ and he said ‘it felt pretty f-ing good.’
“And I’m like, which is it Rory? Is it that golf is held to a higher standard or are you just gonna f you the fans and act like that’s ok?”
What are your thoughts on this? Is Azinger right? Or was Rory justified in his actions?
