Messi’s majestic run and finish leaves Manchester City trailing in PSG’s wake | By @DaveHytner theguardian.com/football/2021/… #UCL
English

@GaryLineker Even the CL number is incorrect. Quite embarrassing for sports news outlets
English

@SkySportsNews @Carra23 @GNev2 @DavidJonesSky International trophies 0 for Messi? These guys don’t do basic homework and then want to come across as experts

@GoalNews @riksharma_ The manner in which they let Messi go for what he represented at the club was pathetic. No discussions on wage negotiations, no exploration of creative options. He was used as an election pawn by Laporta & not even given a decent farewell. For now I don’t watch Barca
English

👋 Messi, Firpo, Moriba, Emerson, Griezmann, Pjanic, Trincao
Why Barcelona's summer clear-out was necessary 👇
By @riksharma_
English

@samuelmarsden Maybe they need to direct that towards their own club. Not just because they let him go but the manner in which they did it.
English

@FCBarcelona @JoanLaportaFCB So how did you sign new players wasn’t it supposed to be 70% to register a new player
English

🗨 @JoanLaportaFCB: ❝Our salaries represent 103% of the Club's total income. That's 20-25% more than our competitors.❞

English

@SiemprePod Still feels like the world is upside down with Messi anywhere but at Barca. But on the flip side he does have the look of someone after many years who’s had weight lifted off their shoulders
English

@samuelmarsden @moillorens Don’t know about the lackey part but can’t say the rest isn’t more or less true
English

Laporta feeling the heat ahead of Barca’s opener later. Photos from @moillorens inc. ‘Liar,’ ‘Florentino’s lackey,’ ‘Judas, you deceived D10S,’ & ‘Messi in Paris while you’re in Ibiza,’ among others

English

@mterstegen1 @FCBarcelona Yes but the Presidents of this club are not worthy of it
English

@riksharma_ please can you help make sense of how the salary reductions from the senior players couldn’t have been negotiated last week to register Messi + all these new players. After Piques story it looks more and more like Laporta didn’t want Messi to stay. Why would that be?
English

@sidlowe @LionelAccount @SAOVOi6 @thereelliam Yeah that’s why I said Messi might have taken an even higher that 50% pay cut but as things come to light it looks more and more like he was pushed out. Like Laporta was just looking for the first excuse that came along
English

@farah71266 @LionelAccount @SAOVOi6 @thereelliam That may be true, yeah. And it may well be *the point as well. But it still matters that a “law” is being widely quoted that just isn’t the case.
English

Gerard Pique quite literally putting his money where his mouth is. #President.
English

@sidlowe @LionelAccount @SAOVOi6 @thereelliam The point is not enough was done by Barca to try make it work with Messi. Sounds like if everyone of the senior players reduced their salaries & Messi went lower then 50% they could have registered him and the others. (Without the CVC deal). Why did Laporta want Messi out?
English

@LionelAccount @SAOVOi6 @thereelliam Sort of. 95% is right. The 70% is a calculation but it’s not based on a pure percentage.
English

@BumperGraham @LaLiga @3gerardpique So if Pique had done this last week Messi could’ve been registered?
English

#Barça statement says that they’ve registered #Memphis #EricGarcia and Manaj with @LaLiga - getting within FFP regulations “thanks to @3gerardpique reducing his salary” - a remarkable development I’d say. Many people need to re-assess their view of #Piqué
English

@samuelmarsden @SiemprePod To be honest when there’s a clash in timing between a Barca and a PSG game we’ll be watching Messi play
English

A @SiemprePod on… well, you know what it’s on. The end of an era at Barcelona pod.fo/e/df447
English

@samuelmarsden @SiemprePod In all fairness @riksharma_ had said in the election podcast that Laporta was a politician, a shifty character. He used Messi. He’s not a honourable guy. What’s happened to the ethics in this club which was their crowing glory over the last 2 decades along with their style of play
English

@shaunwkeaveny Basically he left because of the mismanagement of years of the previous board.
English

@shaunwkeaveny No, because they wouldn’t have been able to register him even if he played for free. They are broke so until they can bring in revenue that reduces the wage bill to under 70% of the revenue they can’t register any new players. Messi became “new” when his previous contract expired
English

@shaunwkeaveny Or they reduce the wage bill by selling the high earners which they couldn’t in this market.
