About 150 young people who met through Cumbria Young Farmers coming together at the weekend on our farm- after the announcement that the government is stopping funding to Young Farmers clubs. These clubs help people who live in isolated areas socialise and learn new skills. 🤷‍♀️

Rather begs the question as to what @SteveReedMP thinks is to be gained from levying a massive tax liability on businesses which haven’t been profitable for a ‘very long time’.

The really mad thing about the politics of farming, environment and food is that as you get nearer the pinnacle you meet people that seem to have power to change it But they tell you that they have NO power to change it - that everything is decided by the Treasury

Another day of what-ifs after accountant meeting. Investment plans of £130k shelved What do we do? Dads ill, mums old. Can’t get insurance on Dad. Potentially means in the next 10yrs will be out as won’t be able to afford IHT amount. Mental hit is huge! 😞

Government handling of this is a shambles, and is going to derail progress that was starting to be made on nature recovery at scale. Vast majority of nature restoration will have to be done on privately owned farmland, and farmers need paying to do it. theguardian.com/environment/20…

I often feel that GM doesn’t get the nuances and balance required to produce food whilst being stewards of the environment, but here he seems to have our back and is calling Labour out, for this crass decision

Today it has been announced that capital grants are on hold, due to budget constraints. The truth is in real terms the budget is 44% smaller than 2019 and now the schemes can't be delivered. This government's rural policy is in tatters, trust severely damaged.
