“Every experience of fear is an experience of love” Statements like this can sound very abstract. But when we look deeply at fear, we can see that in a very mundane and practical way, it really is a deep form of love. Fear often comes from a place of profound care towards ourselves and others. Our hearts fear the possibility of us being hurt because they love us and don’t want us to feel pain. We fear those we love getting hurt for the same reason. From its own perspective, fear is simply screaming out to us “I love you, please be safe.” As well as an expression of love, fear is also an expression of deep awareness. When we feel fear, the risks and dangers around us become very salient. We enter a state of heightened alertness that has a lot of vitality and aliveness embedded in it. Combining these features together, we can see that fear is a deep expression of loving awareness. Of course, this doesn’t mean we want to act from a place of unconscious fear. But it is the unconsciousness, not the fear itself that causes us to suffer. Our goal should not to be to obliterate the energy of fear but rather to bring it into the light of consciousness, so it can transform into its awakened form. Of course, when it does, it ceases to feel like fear at all. It just feels like another shade of love.

When you play a video game, especially an old one, you assume that every artifact you encounter and every scene you occupy are intentionally made and thus contain nothing but signal. You must live your life with this same assumption. Failure to do so results in the mundanification and engrayment of what otherwise could be enchanting and educational. Treating every moment as though it were a lesson and every encounter as though it were a message primes your psyche to enter into a near permanent state of annealing. It channels into an ancient present-tense attitude that signals to your entire system that you are *here* and *now* and ready for whatever encounters may bolster your ability to engage in self-becoming. If every moment is not some signal towards self-actualization, and this must include boring moments and moments of rest too, then you are giving up precious momentum with you could otherwise snowball into a great story of becoming. Everything starts with now. Pay attention!
