On #WorldPressFreedomDay, the state of Pakistan’s media is alarming. 233+ cases of violence & legal threats since 2025 prove that press freedom is under siege. ​We don't need more "lip service & hollow statements from those in power" - we need safety & justice. No more red lines!

PEMRA has issued a show-cause notice to Geo News for airing content related to the legendary subcontinent singer Asha Bhosle. It has always been customary to revisit and celebrate the work of iconic artists when reporting on them. In fact, for an artist of Asha Bhosle’s stature, we should have shared even more of her timeless and memorable songs than we did. Yet, Pakistan’s electronic media regulator, Pemra, has chosen to restrict this. Art, like knowledge, is a shared heritage of humanity and it should not be confined by borders. Asha Bhosle herself admired Pakistan’s legendary singer Noor Jahan, whom she fondly called her “elder sister.” She collaborated with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and brought to life the poetry of great Urdu poets like Nasir Kazmi. In times of war and conflict, art and artists should not become casualties. Intellectuals, musicians, and creators are often the very voices that stand against hatred and division, and the ones who bring people closer together.

Shared some lighthearted and candid moments while welcoming Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, the Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, to the Karachi Press Club.

No more siege of Karachi Press Club. KPC is a sanctuary of free speech, not a tactical blockade. Every time roads are sealed, the voice of the people is stifled. ​Journalists must have access to their 2nd home. It's a symbol of democracy, stop treating it like a battleground.

Today we remember Shaheed Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who went to the gallows with his head held high, unwavering in the knowledge of his innocence and in the conviction that he had served his people with honour. His martyrdom did not silence his voice, but made it eternal, echoing in every struggle for justice, democracy, and the sovereign will of the people of #Pakistan.
