Only older people are buying the magic beans of AI. It's rather sad, actually, seeing senior citizens bamboozled into believing that another industrial revolution is imminent. But they partly WANT to believe, perhaps to atone for their generational failure to make a better world.

the tech world has genuinely not grappled with how many people despise them and what they make
English

@uhhuhhuhok @fazzloop @sethharpesq It can certainly write a lot of lines. Which if course is not coding
English

@uhhuhhuhok @sethharpesq The complete refusal of the left to seriously engage with the reality of this technology has completely fucked our ability as a political constituency to respond to the gigantic challenges it is going to pose to our interests. Just embarrassing. Whole of left atrocious on this.
English

@sethharpesq This is a stupid take. “The cotton gin is just good at processing cotton”
The Silicon Valley that you’re thinking of is only going to get more powerful with AI. Quite the opposite of hoisting by their own petard. It’s really up to us to challenge them
Of course they don’t
English

@sethharpesq @uhhuhhuhok Genuinely too thick to think through the implications of us being able to reach a computer to code is. Just revelling in your own slack-jawed ignorance.
English

@uhhuhhuhok I don't care if AI is good at coding, that just makes it a coding tool. I hope it is and that much of Silicon Valley is hoisted by their own petard. Just don't pretend that LLMs are intelligent or conscious or have anything in common with divinely inspired human minds.
English

@sethharpesq @uhhuhhuhok But the question of whether it's good at coding (and other knowledge work) is directly tied to the claim that it's akin to the Industrial Revolution.
In fact, the kids' booing is not incompatible with her claim. The Industrial Revolution was complicated and put many out of work.

@img4346_jpeg @CletusCornpone @sethharpesq He said research level mathematics
Imagine if any of you morons showed the slightest bit of interest in learning anything about something that you evidently have very strong feelings about
English

@CletusCornpone @sethharpesq there’s no way you’re telling me a computer can do math now

I can’t wrap my head around how diabolically atrocious the discourse around any modern novel technology is
Can’t wait to see the UK Twitter left’s horrendous takes on this when Waymo come to London later this year.

wrong they're literally driven remotely by underpaid filipino workers
English

@pchallinor Genuinely I’m trying to understand because the implication seems to be that privately ran post offices should be somehow forced to use UK govt owned software. Or even more significantly that all UK govt owned bodies shouldn’t use privately owned software. Really?
English

@pchallinor So, what, Post Offices should have used software made by a government owned software company (like socialised software) or…they shouldn’t use software at all? Trying to understand the thought process here in terms of the link between the two stories and what should be done.
English

Good to see we've learned all the right lessons from the Post Office scandal theguardian.com/technology/202…

I was also in Cuba that day and they told me I am very cool and smart and have a large penis
Nuseir Yassin@nasdaily
I was also in Cuba. Same day. Cuban taxi driver told me: “They tell us on TV that we love Iran! Why should I love Iran? I love Cuba! Viva Trump. Viva Israel. Please Trump invade us” 🧐

@john_dough @DavidAstinWalsh If you remove all the caveating language and ranges then it becomes wildly more dramatic and makes him sound over confident to the point of delusion. So if you’re one of these wretched accounts that’s what you do and then it sends everyone into a frenzy replying.
English

@john_dough @DavidAstinWalsh The actual claim is that 50% of *entry level* white collar jobs might be ‘disrupted’ within 1-5 years. Not that 50% of all white collar jobs (from intern to old pro) will definitely be eliminated in a year. Pretty big difference. Still a dramatic and world changing prediction.
