TDCJ is also deploying body cameras and tasers to 23 maximum security facilities.  The agency will continue to assess survey responses for additional equipment upgrades.

In response to feedback from the CReWS Survey, TDCJ spent approximately $3 million on new equipment for correctional officers across the state. Gloves, flashlights, redesigned thrust vest and air vests have been purchased to increase the safety of our officers.

@kepadil received her PhD from @ASUCrimJustice in 2021 & is currently an Asst. Professor at @TXST_CJC. Her work focuses on police/ correctional officer working environments, utilizing a mixed methods approach.

@fbentontx completed his master’s degreee at @CJCSamHouston in 2019 & is working towards his doctorate at @TXST_CJC. His work focuses on prison violence & contraband networks, prison gang operations, & special interests prison populations using large-scale relational databases.

@WesleyTSmith3 received his PhD from @CJCSamHouston in 2021 & served in the U.S. Army for 12 years. His work focuses on staff retention/ training, self harm, recidivism, misconduct, & program evaluation using traditional statistical analysis & machine learning.

Excited for this endeavor with two of my closest friends @WesleyTSmith3 and @kepadil. Between policing, corrections, and anywhere in-between, we want to push these fields forward however we are able to!

Congratulations to the 1st graduating cohort from the Peer Recovery Program at the Memorial Unit in Rosharon! The program was facilitated by certified peer support coaches & offers peer-to-peer substance use education & support to those participating in the program.
