Retirees medical costs are largely covered by Medicare & City paid supplement - a program the last 3 admins tried to kill. Cost transfer from Mayor Adams has already put retirees in an affordability crisis & is being ignored. Most of us make <$35k pension like me. This is why our legislation needs to be introduced. You know what the budget needs? This.

@FDNYchic Until the active workers start taking action the city will continue to conspire with the MLC to do what it wants. Do you know how many guys saw my video (when 12-126 was slashed) retired then called me to ask if I knew what the city was doing to the healthcare? They did nothing

A promise was made to retirees. It must be kept or the city will lose all credibility with potential employees. It’s no coincidence that headcount is still down. We earned it. thecity.nyc/2026/04/03/uni…

We could easily save almost $2 billion, annual recurring, by having a serious, real forensic audit of the five pension funds investment accounts.

Don't punt NYC’s future to 2044. Re-amortizing the UAL is a budget gimmick that would extend our 100% funding goal by 12 years just as we’re nearing the finish line in 2032. The cost? An extra $6.5B+ in long-term interest payments. NJ, CA,LA, IL & Puerto Rico used these exact delays to mask deficits, and now they’re the least funded in the US! NYC is at ~85% and climbing. Let’s hit the 2032 goal, avoid the "interest trap," & protect the next generation of taxpayers & pensioners #NYCBudget #NoPensionGimmicks #FiscalResponsibility #NYCCouncil Watch what the Comptroller told the Finance Committee last year about this: citymeetings.nyc/meetings/new-y…

Oooh! I’ll tell you why- they use consultants because they are too lazy to do the research themselves. Consultants like Milliman & Segal who defend/support MA, have led NYC unions & labor management to force retirees into Medicare Advantage. Companies like Aetna dominate & in the case of TWU give “donations” 🤔 like they did in 2024 when said union agreed to force retirees into MA & move to their PBM

Most hospitals don't know their costs. Things I've asked for that made them roll their eyes : A BOM for surgeries P&L for each insurance carrier P&L for Medicaid or Medicare business Why do they need consultants for everything. Why doesn't their CSuite know how to do any of it Why do they use GPOs when prices are insane Why do they work with carriers that underpay, late pay, deny everything, waste docs time with denial committees run by 97 yr old pediatricians. Why do they make no effort to sell direct to employers (excluding those on costpluswellness.com to avoid all the carrier abuse , and avoid being sub prime lenders for patient OOP Why do they abuse 340b Why do facilities fees exist Why do they abuse site neutrality Why do they abuse patients with charge master based bills Why do they not push for standard contract templates to reduce admin. Why do they accept so many different ins plans Anyone want to add more And for context, remember I think the biggest insurance companies are worse
Vexity@xVexity

@mcuban Because reimbursement is often set below cost. Medicare—especially Medicaid—pay fixed rates that frequently don’t cover staffing, infrastructure, and 24/7 care. Hospitals can’t refuse those patients so the gap gets made up elsewhere.

The whole political discourse has been taxes, taxes, taxes. Whatever happened to jobs, jobs, jobs? It’s the consequence of just expecting less from government. This and more from @77WABCradio’s Pulse of the People. 👇

I’m thankful he thinks about kids, know who he’s ignored since he was a candidate? The elderly & disabled, 9/11 responders @NycRetirees who served this city for decades. The last mayor forced us into an affordability crisis trying to steal our healthcare. Zohran doesn’t reply!

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
Rose Hayes once said, “Effective government can do more good and talented people can make all the difference.” Her father, Frederick O’Reilly Hayes, understood that deeply. In the 1960s, he challenged the status quo and reimagined what public service could look like for working New Yorkers. That legacy lives on through the Hayes Innovation Prize, which recognizes city workers who refuse to accept that things must remain as they are. It was a privilege to welcome this year’s recipients to Gracie Mansion and celebrate their work. From saving lives with vending machine fentanyl strips to making our commercial districts more accessible through digital mapping, these honorees are showing us what it means to govern with urgency, creativity, and care. They are a reminder of why I ran for office: to serve people. To Claire Boyd, Elan Carmel, Mike Kutzma , Roxanne Anderson, Pavel Ilin, Shawn Inshan, Mallory Rutigliano, Joel Owhe, Caleb Wendling, Julia Klauss, Kym Williams, Matthew Yarri: thank you for the work you do every day. New York City is lucky to have you.

@Harriso59092532 Actually, promises are binding. And in many cases can even be contractual. I know we fought that in court. 😀

In 1967 Mayor John Lindsay wanted to give employees & Retirees healthcare & pay for it. Admin code 12–126 pays the full cost of health coverage for every employee Retiree & dependents Until Mayor Adams hit Medicare retirees on small fixed pensions with costs last year. We’ve been trying to meet with you to save us from this affordability crisis, causing Retirees not to go to the Dr or take medicine. When will you reply to my request?

Warning to @NYCCouncil: Don't repeat the mistakes of NJ, IL, CA, LA and PR. Pension Obligation Bonds (POBs) are a dangerous gamble. Those states are now the nation’s least funded systems because they used debt to mask deficits. NJ’s health costs are spiking & IL faces $140B+ in unfunded liabilities. POBs don't fix the hole, they just add interest. Keep NY on the right path. Keep NYC’s future off the credit card. No POBs. #NYCBudget #FiscalResponsibility #NYCPensions

@indiemusicfan4 @CMNantashaW your solution is to kill Retirees? A promise was made to them & that should be kept. NYS court determined MA is a diminished healthcare plan that prevents Retirees from getting the care they need. Non-starter.

@FDNYchic @CMNantashaW absolutely. moving city retirees to medicare advantage plans would help reduce costs and increase quality of care. either that, or... we could tax the rich

If your entire budget analysis is “tax the rich,” you may not actually understand the budget. That’s exactly why we need a more transparent process and a more informed public debate. I’ve always supported progressive taxation btw, but that can’t be the only thing we discuss.

@CMNantashaW Correct. There are places we can reduce spending that won’t impact services. no-bid contracts are citywide. Every single one of them should be reviewed. I’ve shown we are paying a former commissioner $500/hr, & a mediator $7500/day. We can fix this & still get work done.

I unequivocally object to the Retiree Health Benefit Trust being used as a slush fund again. @nycretirees are in an affordability crisis imposed by the last Mayor that @NYCMayor @ZohranKMamdani has not addressed & the council hasn't either yet. I also fiercely object to the Unfunded Accrued Liabilities(UAL) being suggested & Pension Obligation Bonds(POB) which are also taxable. Think there's no risk? Look at Illinois & NJ. Who suggested this? Did not anyone learn that playing with retiree benefits has consequences? I guess after Seder & Easter - Retirees mobilize again. #refresher citymeetings.nyc/meetings/new-y…

Bob - you should really follow up with us - @NycRetirees have been fighting this & helping other retirees fight back for 5 years. We took NYC to court that found Medicare advantage is a diminished benefit that delays & denies care & prevents access to trusted doctors. MA is the default plan of project 2025 as well.

NEW: Trump admin is making it easier for Medicare Advantage plans to grab bonus $$ from star ratings. It'll cost taxpayers $18.6B over the next decade (more than the $13.2B originally expected). Will MA plans continue to cry poor? statnews.com/2026/04/02/med…
