@betty_nft The app's ethos matters more than the design. It could be the most well-designed app but if it's just another VC-funded, ad-driven, data-harvesting platform then how can it really be any different? I recommend tildes.net instead (ad-free, privacy-first, user-funded)

Seeing a lot of people talk about how positive the new app feels compared to here and its reminding me a little of when everyone talked about web3 as though it was this inclusive utopia. The same people make up these spaces, we're just experiencing collective honeymoon phases that distracts from the work that needs to be done. Real societal change is needed to actually create any sort of shift in the way we treat each other. Can well designed apps encourage more positive interaction and understanding of one another? Maybe. BeReal seemed sort of refreshing for that. What are your thoughts?

@modilingua It's not just creative workers at risk. Any type of work that can be captured digitally, can generate data to train AI to replace human workers. Shall we just let them because "they're going to anyway"? But yeah, artists' fund + UBI + more social safety nets are needed.

This isn't just going to be Envato. It's very possible that our current notion of copyright will simply no longer fit into this new AI landscape. Because anything any creator publishes at any point will be scraped and used to train on, whether officially or not 🤷🏻‍♀️ The big Q is: what could an internationally cohesive artists' fund look like? How would it work? That's a conversation creators should be having. Not advocating anyone stick with platforms that exploit them. But I'm leaning more and more towards letting the bots scrape my stuff. They're going to anyway. The other alternative is to not publish anything at all anymore, anywhere. #creatoreconomy #ai #copyright

Composers/musicians using the website @AudioJungle by @envato to sell royalty free music - Envato have 'updated' - their T&C's to **now have AI train on your items that you have authored and uploaded** You are opted in AUTOMATICALLY. Additionally, your items will now be licensed "in perpetuity" becuase an AI cannot 'forget' what it has learned. There is no mention of any profit share for authors from AI works derived from authors' compositions. If you don't want your items to be trained by AI, you need to remove them from the marketplace by June 1st. There is (currently) no opt-out available. While I appreciate AI is inevitable and some people will be embracing this, the immediacy with which @envato has gone about it while seemingly going against some of their core values is striking. I can't believe they didn't give authors a choice, and have only given 20 days notice to find an alternative. For those who might be dependent on income from the site, it puts them in a massive quandiary, especially with the lack of time to find an alternate solution. It's frankly shameful behaviour. I've had an author account there since 2009 - which I will now remove. It kept me afloat during my early years in the industry. I also reviewed items on the site. This policy change and sudden implementation is disgraceful, and I'm now sorry to have been associated with @audiojungle and @envato in any way.

⚠️ Artists selling assets on Envato, remove your content from the platform by May 31, 2023 if you don't want your content used in AI art training. Just got this email from Envato with the subject "Important updates to our Elements Author Agreement & Market Author Terms"

If OTW lets AI scrape fics on AO3 it’s going to hurt creatives, destroy the site, and do so much damage to fandom culture. It’ll be such a huge betrayal—majority of writers and readers don’t want this, people will just take down their work en masse and it’ll be devastating.
