Ted with TM (Transverse Myelitis)

Over £31,000 now pledged towards my effort to climb Mont Ventoux; 35 months on from full paralysis caused by transverse myelitis. My attempt halted after 2-hours because my legs literally collapsed on the bike, but I went back 4 days later and finished the journey....

@petermoreve Cheers Peter. I took quite a bang on the head on Monday so was getting a bit worried last night but there seems to be plenty of other reasons to why it happened. Absolutely taking care, as I'm pretty attuned now to anything odd happening to me! 😭😁

Cancelled attending a show in Norwich (were already there) due to vertigo like issues. Worried it might have been linked to my fall on Monday so was in bed at 7.30pm. Out like a light and ok now, so suspect it was linked to poor sleep on Tuesday and TM balance issues. Scary 🫣

@timdavies_uk @_LionelMandrake It's great when it all comes together. Another benefit of years of cycle racing before motorbikes. Weight transfer and counter steering came naturally. The former is now limited by muscle and knee issues 😭

@_LionelMandrake @feckingpsycho Yes, good advice - thank you. I have a BMW 800GS also so most of my riding and the IAM Advanced qual was done on that bike. The RS660 all seems to be about weight transfer which is really interesting but quite new to me.

I have to admit that riding this scares me! Not for lack of experience or the ridiculous power on tap, but because I go out every time thinking that something will happen to make me question why on earth I am on the biggest and most powerful bike I've owned when, by rights,..1/2

@SolWielkop @timdavies_uk I started riding in '93 after years of cycle racing. It actually helped from a safety awareness perspective! Now it's simply accommodating a rare condition that would see the majority simply stop altogether (that's not me though!). Keep safe 👍

@timdavies_uk @feckingpsycho I had to have a word with myself too, after a little collision and a dislocation. All good, but it’s hard to gain judgement when new to riding.

@_LionelMandrake Cheers. I think it was pretty much the last of the trellis framed 1200s to sell. The newer ones don't really do it for me and the torque is immense 😂

@_LionelMandrake @timdavies_uk Full knee down on a public highway is a dodgy business!🫣 My mantra follows what you say (always has) but the weakened muscles in my legs (because of my TM and two surgeries) don't make pushing up straight very easy! Still better on it than not 👍

@timdavies_uk @feckingpsycho Keep those elbows bent and flexible. Transfer body weight prior to turn in. I'm sure you aren't going full knee down (I don't) so just load your weight on the bum cheek of the direction you want to go. Sports bikes require a different mindset imo.

@PeterRich1475 No, totally focused when on the bike (especially yesterday because of the potholes!). The point of yesterday's message was that I get concerned before I go out as to whether or not it would impact me afterwards!

@feckingpsycho Where you thinking about your problems in life while you were riding your beast I know when I’m on my GSXR I am only thinking about the road infont of me If I’m thinking about anything else I turn around and go home as my head obviously is not into it that day Twist on

@feckingpsycho @MikeRob66 @LancashireCC The council has a website to report road faults and asks you to measure the depth of pothole and take a photo! 🤣 I phoned and told the lady “I’m not being funny but I’m not stopping on country lane with bends to take a photo and measure a pothole!”Laughable! Too many to report!

I’ve been riding bikes for almost 50 years and in that time I’ve seen it all. Most of us ‘older’ bikers have built up valuable riding experience over the years. It’s the new inexperienced bikers that tend to think they’re invincible. Please watch out for us all. Thank you 🙏

@GrumpyUK @MikeRob66 @LancashireCC That's very evident across the country. You see one recently filled in and everything else has been left alone. I'm out on the push bike today and some of the road edges have just gone. Not good if in a small lane with a car passing 🫣 If it looks like a puddle it might not be!

@feckingpsycho @MikeRob66 Same up here in Lancs! On a routine car route on country lane I spotted one that would have been life changing for a biker! Reported to @LancashireCC who did fill it in but left the other six nearby! We’re surrounded by folks who don’t want to do a good job!

@timdavies_uk 👍 Mine's a combination of lack of riding in recent years (substantially) and many issues related to my condition. I rode over to Wisbech stopped for a bun and a coffee and came back much more relaxed, quicker and confident. I race cars so don't need to be stupid on the road! 👍

I understand this, I was on the Aprilia RS660 yesterday, first time in 4 months, heavy into corners, gravel etc - I had to have a word and sit down with myself afterwards. I think I might track only the RS or I need to just grow up quickly and become sensible, the roads are awful and I'm new to riding.

@GrumpyUK @MikeRob66 It was evident within 5 minutes of leaving the house. Because they don't sit in any particular part of the carriageway, there's just a massive risk if you don't see them...and some were inches inches deep 🫣

@feckingpsycho @MikeRob66 Great minds…! I expect the bike routes I often take will have deteriorated since last year!

@eddierose1971 @TheManWithGas 😂 I passed my test in a 3-day intensive course back in the '93. Honda CG125. Went out the next day and bought a Triumph Sprint 900! As the examiner motioned when I asked what was sensible to buy: "it's in the right wrist and brain" 😁

@feckingpsycho @TheManWithGas When I did my direct access course it was run out of a bike dealership in Ealing. Halfway through the course the instructor caught me drooling over a brand new Speed Triple. ‘Don’t even think about it’ were his exact words 😂

@GrumpyUK @MikeRob66 I posted the same point a few hours ago after my first ride this year. Considerably worse on the A47 in west Norfolk than a few months ago and I consciously dropped back to avoid unforeseen randomly spaced potholes. 🤬

@MikeRob66 Thanks. Bad enough if you’re following in a car, so on a bike potentially more hazardous to hit a pothole.
