It is a great shame that @GBNEWS was not called by Sir Keir Starmer at his press conference in Number 10 today. We had a reporter there. The questioners are selected in advance by his team. We were not.

Opinion: The worst feature of Trump is his vulgarity. But to claim he’s a threat to democracy, is a fascist and hates women (really?) is just ridiculous partisan rhetoric: bit.ly/3SvxJT1

@RoryStewartUK Rory I don’t understand your enthusiasm for open contests after Johnson and Truss. No guarantee this would have a better outcome, and why would they give the successful candidate even less time to win the bigger campaign?

We live in an anti-incumbency age. The Dem strategy of putting unity above all is understandable. But rushing a coronation of Kamala Harris feels out of step in 24. And it assumes she will inspire swing voters in MI, PA and WI. Dems risk losing by “playing safe.”

Axing levelling up shows lack of ambition and a failure to believe in this country’s potential. Labour will axe Brexit next. Then they will pointlessly whack up taxes. The drift backwards has begun.

BREAKING: Am being leaked all the campaign director morning notes from Tory HQ now … here is today’s … we will be fielding C Heaton-Harris on the media this morning. You will know he is not standing but as with M Gove we think this helps us. These departing MPs are able to put a bit of distance from the campaign and when asked to comment eg on betting scandals, unravelling tax lies and the like, they can say it is not a matter for them. But they can then pivot to our line of the day which is that Starmer will take UK back into EU. We need to be careful however, as there is a danger this will make Starmer more popular. So we need to issue the warning gently, especially in Lib Dem areas. Please don’t leak but the Chancellor called the PM yesterday furious at his “Brexit is great”’tweet (overnight focus groups suggest JH has a point but let’s double down to show confidence in our strategy. Tomorrow Sir Gavin Williamson will be main message carrier. Unfortunately most of current cabinet now feel they are in either lost cause seats or marginals so we have to respect their refusal to go out and defend the national campaign. But as you know Gav is a great salesman and we are hoping he can do for Rishi what he once did for fireplaces. No new scandals overnight apart from us using public money to set up party website for candidates. But thankfully there are so many bigger scandals nobody is noticing. And remember … it is no longer about stopping the boats but stopping the votes. STOP THE VOTES. AVOID THE SUPERDEFEAT WE KNOW WE DESERVE. Onwards !!!

@campbellclaret Omg, she thinks she’s got a chance of being PM again! Surely she should slither off to a quiet life of irrelevance

@boganintel Sorry, what? Are you seriously arguing that people should have the right to watch a violent stabbing as a measure of freedom of speech? This is nutty.

X removed the video from Australia. Gov has no right to remove overseas. Labor has taken the burgeoning western establishment censorship baton to declare war for Washington on freedom of expression in social media. Is Australia becoming a test ground for neo-authoritarianism?

Just come across Liz Truss saying “I hadn’t gone into politics to deal with floods or fix prisons.” Why not? Wouldn’t politics be much better if she felt her job was to fix such things? This is a fundamental problem with our system ⁦@RestIsPoliticsunherd.com/2024/04/why-li…
