@stirling_j Being at the Maracanã tonight, there was a sense of frustration among the fans at their way of playing. This was interesting to me as a contrast to the European view of Diniz as the person delivering the style of play that the Brazilian people want.

The way Diniz is judged so harshly is very strange 🤔 ‘Fluminense is not in the top 8 of investments in the country, it spent less on signings over the years than any SAF and Red Bull Bragantino, but they charge Diniz for being 3rd or 4th and not the 1st in the championship.’

@Gareth_Sandford If we zoom into the energy systems for a team sport athlete, the interactions are very complex which support the interactions of the player with the game. With that start point, logically, the method of highest precision and individualisation to condition the player is the game.

@Gareth_Sandford I would say an even more macro level. Team sport performance. There are also moments of no (or if we want to be scientific extremely low) acc-dec like standing, top of jump, sustained jog, run and so on.

Planning aerobic conditioning for team sport? Whilst there are always squad dynamics to manage, Be aware that the modality you use (Bike, Run, SSG, other) Can dramatically change the precision of the stimulus and outcome training response.

Another textbook attacking shape. I'm not really one for ranking things but this Fluminense are one of my favourite ever teams to watch. So much fun, spontaneity and surprise. It makes so much other football seem incredibly dull.

@tim67at @stirling_j @SelecaoTalk In Brazil, we call this ‘ataque funcional’ - functional attack. The ball location is what organizes the players. Great for creating overloads on symmetrical defenses. Ajax attacked Juventus this way a few years back. 🤙

Also, next Friday, we are hosting the first-ever football analytics event in Brazil! Due to budget constraints, the event this year consists mostly of local speakers. However, we plan to grow the event bigger every year, bringing people from other cities and countries!
