On Rialo L1, multiple consensus logs can run at the same time during upgrades, which risks creating inconsistent states if both old and new logs keep writing. This happens because the same transactions can be ordered differently in each log, leading to forks or divergent world states. To fix this, Gauss enforces a clear boundary where the old epoch ends and the new one begins. After that boundary, the system only accepts entries from the new consensus log and simply ignores any extra entries that come later from the old epoch.
