@TomPelissero What exactly is fascinating about this QB room? Kyler QB1, Wentz and JJM compete for back up and JJM winds up QB3. Nothing fascinating about that.

The Vikings went 9-8 last season and probably make the playoffs if Carson Wentz doesn't get hurt, forcing undrafted rookie Max Brosmer into action. This time, they have Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy and Wentz in one of the NFL's most fascinating QB rooms.
Tom Pelissero@TomPelissero

Veteran QB Carson Wentz is re-signing with the Vikings, sources tell The Insiders. So Minnesota’s QB room now features three former top-10 picks: Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy and Wentz, who played well last season before a shoulder injury.

@ZKantzFF @32BeatWriters JCM is horrible at pass blocking and was never viewed as a pass catching back. Don’t see how White further caps JCM. Totally agree they aren’t done. The size of the contract says that if Love falls to them they are taking him.

My write up on Rachaad White from yesterdays article: Rachaad White signed a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders. A meager one-year $2 million deal to a running back who has been an inefficient runner for the majority of his career doesn't instill confidence (Keaton Mitchell is making more on the Chargers). Nonetheless, White should still carve out a role as a receiver, further capping Jacorey Croskey-Merritt’s opportunities and upside. Bet on Washington adding another running back to further muddy their backfield for fantasy purposes. Fantasy takeaway: View White as a fantasy RB3 in 2026 that will prove to be more of a nuisance than a fantasy asset. Washington’s backfield is still incomplete and should be adding up to two more running backs before the start of the season.

@SamiOnTap It’s BS but not as bad as people are speculating. The first $1mm is exempt so the tax is on every dollar OVER $1mm. Still a big deal for the very large earners.

I think a lot of fans think these things are “no big deal” but it clearly is. 9.9% tax on millionaires, can make a Seahawks free agent reconsider where to play. Giving up $100,000 per $1 M you make is a big deal. I’m glad John Schneider said it.
Front Office Sports@FOS

Seahawks GM John Schneider says Washington’s new “millionaire’s tax” will sting player recruitment and roster building. The law, set to impose a 9.9% tax on earnings over $1M starting in 2029, could make the state less competitive versus no-income-tax markets like Florida.

Another day, another spectacularly horrific Black-on-White murder that no one hears about, that would be the number one story in the world if it were White-on-anyone-else. On February 13, Black 21-year-old Alexander Lamar Banks was driving around, admittedly looking for people to kill, when he spotted a White mom and dad, out for an evening walk, pulling their 3-year-old daughter in a pink wagon in Delta Township, Michigan (77% White, 11% Black). That's when Banks targeted them, accelerating his car in their direction, driving off the road, and smashing through the White family. Banks then exited the vehicle, retrieved a shotgun, and fired multiple rounds, hitting all three family members and killing 3-year-old Harlow Smith. He reloaded the weapon before approaching Harlow's dad and shooting him again at close range. Banks punched the White father in the face and beat him with the shotgun. He then grabbed the White mother by the hair, twisting her head and trying to break her neck when she attempted to intervene. A 72-year-old White woman named Barb Cook saw what was happening and ran toward the murder scene to try to help the family. With his gun empty, Banks smashed 72-year-old Barb repeatedly in the head with it. He hit her with such force that her hair and flesh were later recovered from the muzzle. After beating Barb, Banks dropped the gun and fled. 37-year-old dad Cameron Smith, 33-year-old mom Paige Smith, and 72-year-old Barb Cook all survived the encounter that claimed young Harlow's life. Barb Cook required brain surgery and facial reconstruction, and went into a coma (as of the most recent update, she remains in that coma). Now, we wait to see how easy the system goes on Alexander Lamar Banks when it's inevitably determined that he was “not in the right state of mind” and has the IQ of speed bump. To recap, a Black psychopath quite literally hunted a White family, in public, in the light of day, running them down with his vehicle before shooting them repeatedly and savagely beating them in someone's front yard, killing a 3-year-old, then bludgeoning an unrelated 72-year-old grandma into a coma, and virtually no one knows, or will ever know, that any of this happened. But everyone on Earth knows that a White girl said a magic word on a Minnesota playground last year.

The Vikings would make a big mistake by signing Kyler. 1. Kyler Murray is a worse QB than JJ McCarthy. Kyler has a way better reputation. Kyler also has that "gamer" reputation where he gets the benefit of the doubt even if he practices poorly. But he has played a lot of ball and very, very little of it has been good. Even leaving aside the injuries. In a QB competition, I think JJ narrowly wins. In games, I think McCarthy would significantly outproduce Kyler in the same offense. 2. Kyler isn't experienced or respected enough to be a good mentor for JJ if he loses the competition. 3. Despite Kyler's lesser abilities, his reputation will cause a stir in the locker room. Kyler was a Heisman winner and a 1st overall pick. The players will clamor for him because they are casual fans who don't actually watch other teams play. Kyler will have a leg up in the competition and the team will be breathing down McCarthy's neck if he were to win a competition. The pressure is cranked up to 10.

I had to shower after I read this. The standout to me was the mistress allegedly abused the government catastrophic illness paid leave program for alcoholism when the real story may have been she was pregnant with Newsom’s child. What happened to that child?
MAZE@mazemoore

While Mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom had an affair with his best friend's wife. There was more to that scandal than most people know. It's really a testament to how corrupt California politics is that the scandal did not end Newsom's career. Alex Tourk was Newsom's longtime friend and campaign manager. Tourk became Newsom's Deputy Chief of Staff after Newsom took office as Mayor in 2004. Shortly after Newsom took office, Tourk's wife (known as Ruby Rippey-Tourk back then) was given a job as "Appointments Secretary" in the Mayor's office. It is unclear if she got that job because of her husband or because of Newsom. She kept the job until the summer/fall of 2006. Newsom's affair with her was alleged to have started in 2005 but it may have started earlier. Mayor Newsom's mistress was not only his friend's wife, she was also his subordinate. The affair was apparently an open secret to many in the Mayor's office. Unfortunately for the husband he somehow didn't know until she admitted it to him later on. Love is blind. Here's the part of the scandal that most politicians would not have been able to survive. After the affair became public, it became clear that Newsom's mistress/secretary had received benefits that she did not qualify for while she worked for Newsom. Most of the unearned benefits revolved around her getting paid for time not spent working. During her tenure she missed work over 20% of the time and yet still kept her job and still got paid. There was a nine month stretch during which she never worked even one full week during the entire nine months. She exceeded her PTO amount but kept taking PTO and kept getting paid for it. Here's the big one. Gavin's former mistress/secretary also took almost three months off under the city's Catastrophic Illness Program. She was approved and paid for the time off even though her "illness" absolutely did not qualify for the program. Her illness? Alcoholism. No city employee in San Francisco had ever been approved for paid leave through the Catastrophic Illness Program for drug/alcohol related issues. The program was for life threatening illnesses such as advanced stage cancer. Ruby Rippey-Tourk claimed she was an alcoholic, took ten weeks off, and got paid for it by the city. Newsom's mistress was the only person to get that paid time off granted just for claiming to be an alcoholic. It was rumored at the time of her leave that she was pregnant with Newsom's child. Because it was San Francisco and because Newsom was a popular up and coming Democrat politician who had the support of Bill Clinton, there was never a serious investigation into any of it. After the affair became public, Alex Tourk quit his job. Newsom announced that he would be paying Tourk's monthly salary until Tourk found a new job. Newsom ended up using campaign funds to pay off Tourk, not personal money. Newsom was dating his current wife (Jennifer Siebel) when the scandal became public. Siebel defended Newsom, bashed Ruby Rippey-Tourk as the "culprit" and then reached out to Harvey Weinstein (whom she had previously slept with) for advice on how Gavin should handle the media. Today Siebel claims she is a fighter for women. After the affair became public, Gavin claimed that he too had alcohol problems and was going to rehab. He publicly announced that he had entered an outpatient rehab program. He was re-elected for Mayor later that year. During his run for Governor in 2018, Newsom began completely denying ever going to rehab or even ever having a problem with alcohol. In 2018 he was probably already starting to clean up his past in preparation for a future Presidential run.
