New research results for people with chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injur! 🎉 Dr Bryan Conway and his team have identified a group of cells in the kidney that emerge during chronic kidney disease, or after acute kidney injury, that lead to a loss of kidney function. Did you know? For many patients in need of a kidney transplant, the best outcome for their transplant will be from a living donor. This #WorldKidneyDay, consider living donation - you could help transform someone's life 💗 #LivingDonationWeek

We are incredibly thrilled to share that our chief executive, Sandra Currie, is named as the recipient of an OBE in recognition of Services to People Affected by Kidney Disease, as announced in the King’s 2025 New Year Honours list. For the past 12 years as CEO, Sandra has been a devoted advocate for people living with kidney disease and has overseen significant growth in the charity’s activities and research funding. “Today, as I’m taking in the honour of being recognised in this way, around 22 people in the UK will start their year needing ongoing treatment because their kidneys have failed, and there will be another 22 each day throughout 2025. “My strength in this role comes entirely from the people who share their lives with me. Everyone who has told me of the devastation kidney disease has brought to them and their families, every researcher who has shared their passion and innovation as they search for answers to end kidney disease, and everyone who supports and funds our work from all corners of the UK. “They remind me daily of the great need for our work and keep me focused on the urgency for the charity to do more. We are one great team of people who work and volunteer for the charity, I am completely honoured to have been nominated and to be receiving this recognition for what we have achieved together.” On behalf of colleagues and supporters, congratulations Sandra Currie OBE! 🎉 Read more here: bit.ly/40j3qn6 [Image description: Sandra is smiling for a photograph at a gala event. “The increase in service-based “Locally Employed Doctor” posts is a matter for serious concern, not celebration. The increase is produced by a training gap - a huge and growing mismatch between the numbers of graduates and the number of structured training posts available.”

Isobel is amazing. Now 84, she continues to teach on a regular basis and remains active in the world of traditional music in Scotland. Anyone like to guess who her newest pupil might be…?
Age Scotland@agescotland

Do yourself a favour and take a few minutes to listen to his beautiful rendition of Ye Banks and Braes o' Bonnie Doon, sung by Isobel Mieras, 82, accompanying herself on the clarsach. Thank you, Isobel, for sharing this lovely song for #BurnsNight
