Victor Montagliani is emerging as a contender to rival/replace Gianni Infantino, as reported on @talkSPORT during the World Cup and advanced further today by @PeteHall86. Montagliani has been primarily focused on Concacaf re-election, but it is well known in FIFA circles that he harbours ambitions to be FIFA President one day. Concacaf sources believe the strong statement aligning with UEFA could help Montagliani's cause. UEFA (55) and CAS (41) carry 96 of the 211 votes. Several UEFA federations still want Nasser Al-Khelaifi to stand, but a source close to the PSG President says he has "zero ambition to do so". Mattias Granström and Dariusz Mioduski are other names some UEFA federations have mentioned. FIFA General Secretary Granström is highly-regarded and not viewed as tarnished by Infantino's plans, which blindsided even some in his closest circle, including FIFA advisor Carlos Cordeiro who resigned today., Those close to AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa insist he does not want to go head-to-head against Infantino, despite a strong AFC statement rejecting FFE. Multiple AFC and FIFA sources have told talkSPORT that privately there isn't the same unanimous position among all Asian federations as other confederations despite the AFC's emphatic wording this morning. Deadline for candidates to stand is November 18 ahead of March's election.
