@ahistoryinart Agreed. It is as if the empty space itself provides the dramatic element the turned away figures need.

This trademark painting (1903) depicts the drawing room in Vilhelm Hammershøi's Copenhagen home at Strandgade 30. His paintings go beyond appearances, and become instead objects which derive their power from what is suggested rather than seen.

Two examples of intertextuality: Iran’s knowing useage of a canonical English Lit text, the US’s adopting a more surface approach mired in unwitting simulation. 😂

@ProfSunnySingh While the Iranian Ambassador quotes Jane Austen, the US Minister of War quotes Pulp Fiction believing it to be The Bible.

Iran’s diplomat makes a Jane Austen reference. White British male newscaster does not get it. SO much of contemporary British cultural hubris and ignorance (even of themselves) encapsulated in this clip.

A good poem --- 028 Spring Journal xiv --- by Mark Fiddes @fiddesmark The poem is light in tone, yet so heavy. It's as if it's trying to tell us that there will always be something lingering in our minds, something constantly reminding us that the world isn't perfect.
