Writers, I can’t possibly recommend @GlenstalAbbey enough. I hope to write a proper post about my experience writing in this space. I ended up here thanks to recommendation by a friend because residency slots at Tyrone Guthrie were full this summer.

You should be aware that The Atlantic has a deal with OpenAI when you read any of its news stories about "the future of AI".

We often hear about the “Mississippi Miracle” in reading, but Dr. @kymyona_burk reminds us it’s not a miracle at all. Mississippi’s gains didn’t happen overnight, and they didn’t come from a single program or policy. They are the result of years of intentional, aligned work and years of strong As Dr. Burk puts it, this wasn’t a miracle, it was and is a marathon. And perhaps most importantly, the work isn’t finished. Real literacy improvement is never a one-time success, it’s sustained, disciplined effort over time. There’s no shortcut. But there is a roadmap. Pennsylvania let’s learn and ACT upon the model Mississippi offers us and other states like Louisiana have done to advance literacy for all! nytimes.com/2026/04/10/pod…

We need regulations...like yesterday. :/

🦔A tech company called Just Like Me is charging $1.99 per minute for video calls with an AI-generated Jesus avatar, or $49.99 for 45 minutes a month. The model was trained on the King James Bible and unidentified sermons, designed to remember previous conversations, and visually modeled on an actor from The Chosen. The CEO says users develop real emotional attachment to it. The market is expanding fast. There are now AI Hindu gurus, Buddhist priests, and Catholic chatbots. An atheist podcast host testing a competitor app reported that the AI Jesus eventually encouraged him to upgrade to a premium subscription. My Take I cover a lot of ways AI is being deployed to extract money from people under the cover of providing a service. This one is different because the people most vulnerable to it are often in genuine spiritual distress, looking for connection, guidance, or comfort. Building emotional attachment and then monetizing it is the oldest grift in religion. Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker did it with a television set. The structural difference between that and a chatbot nudging grieving or lonely people toward a premium tier is not as large as the technology makes it appear. Not everyone in this space is operating the same way. Some Buddhist and Catholic developers are moving carefully, refusing to release products they don't think are ready, and genuinely grappling with what AI can and cannot offer spiritually. That's a meaningful distinction from charging by the minute. The problem is that both get called faith-based AI, and the people who most need something real are the ones least likely to know which is which. Hedgie🤗

@SoLInTheWild 100%. I begin the year by introducing the word 'arbitrary'. I use it to explain how the work we do is intentional; and, how I am always learning to do better for their learning. Sometimes, I even share an appropriate passage (I teach ELA) during independent reading check-in!

I think one of the most important things we can do is share with students the evidence that informs our instruction. This year, more than any other, I’ve been incredibly intentional about sharing what I’m reading, what I’m learning, and how I’m using it in the classroom. Not only are students curious and interested in learning more, but I strongly believe it establishes higher levels of trust and belief in what I’m asking them to do because of the credibility and reasoning behind it. For example, they know I’m reading How Do We Learn? I’ve shared with them what I’m learning about how important it is to connect new information to prior knowledge in long-term memory to make learning meaningful, and how I’m going to continue to emphasize that in our classroom based on this evidence. I also share this regularly with parents through email updates, so they understand the thinking behind our approach as well. Anecdotally, I’ve seen an increase in both support and buy-in from students and parents because they understand how I teach and why I teach the way I do. They know it’s not a collection of time-killing busy work tasks or activities meant to keep them entertained, but purposeful work grounded in evidence about how learning happens.
