**Britain 🇬🇧 cannot “leave the world.” And the price we’re already paying for Brexit proves it.** @DMiliband is absolutely right. The people screaming for: •leaving the ECHR •shutting down all asylum routes •cutting all foreign aid •severing ties with Europe •retreating behind borders …don’t understand the basic truth of global security: Our rights depend on other countries respecting theirs. Our safety depends on global rules that protect us. Our stability depends on a world where cruelty doesn’t go unchecked. Leaving the ECHR won’t stop the boats 👉but it will dismantle the legal protections every British citizen relies on. 🔥 Countries that walk away from human rights treaties eventually become the countries people flee. Hong Kong. Russia. Belarus. Afghanistan. Junta-led Greece. Every authoritarian system that abandons rights eventually collapses inward …. then outward.

This is very moving. I’d much rather have this decent, competent and committed public servant with obvious depth of soul and character in charge than the alternative spectrum of options, who range from the crassly venal to the utterly absurd.

Brexit can’t be covered up or ignored any more. •BoE governor Andrew Bailey said in Washington that Brexit’s impact on growth is “negative for the foreseeable future.” •The OBR will soon publish figures showing that Brexit has cut UK productivity by up to 4% since 2016. •UK goods exports are down 15% from pre-referendum levels. •Car manufacturing remains well below pre-Brexit levels. •🇬🇧 GDP per capita has risen by only 4.4% between 2016–2024, compared with 9% in the eurozone - half the growth rate. •Inflation and labour shortages have been aggravated by Brexit trade barriers and reduced investment.
