The cell phone, the internet, the submarine, self driving cars, voice assistants, the helicopter and the space shuttle were all imagined by storytellers before they were built by engineers. Stories are blueprints.

Recent stories of Emirati kindness to stranded travelers remind me of the Good Samaritan and makes you doubt if there's any nation as godly as the Emiratis. Compassion often emerges from those outside our assumed circle of obligations, and gratitude, like the Samaritan leper’s, reveals true understanding. Neighborliness is proven by mercy, not identity.

But whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God, the free life, even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action.

The grandstands sound so quiet this morning. I remember vividly the first time I had a front-row seat. Steadfast in conviction. A bridge builder when others were creating barricades. He expanded access and opportunity for countless Americans long told to “wait their turn”. He never feared taking a position or confronting opposition. His message and methodology were controversial to some, but always courageous. Those who witnessed him at the zenith of his roar will remember him standing in the world’s fiercest arenas—negotiating the release of hostages when diplomacy had stalled, traveling to Syria during the Cold War when tensions were high and trust was thin. Not with governmental authority, but with the moral authority of conviction, meeting directly with President Hafez al-Assad. A paradigm shifted when he entered one of the grandest coliseums and ran for the presidency. Whether cheered or jeered from the stands, he was a gladiator for his community and a relentless champion for change. Today, the coliseum is quiet. The lions return to their lairs; the gladiator has laid down his armor. Others will follow the path he forged, but the echo of his voice will endure. Our arenas were different and our methods distinct, yet when our paths crossed I was humbled, a convergence of callings, united by love for our people, each willing to lend our voice when the other called. There will not be another quite like him. Thank you, Reverend Jesse Jackson, for the battles you fought and the hope you ignited. “Keep hope alive” is now a torch in our hands. In these tempestuous times, when hope’s pulse may feel faint, we must carry it forward. To his beloved wife, family, and close friends, you have lost more than the world can measure. My wife dreams of a particular type of car and a type of bedroom closet. We sometimes talk about it and I have a specific plan to get them for her. It has been delayed a couple of times thanks to FTX and others. It is not as if she needs them now, they are just fantasies and life is still ok if she doesn't have them. I, on the other hand, want her to have them because my job is to make her happy and I will not abdicate that role. If someone else comes to disrupt that flow, it will be the ultimate disrespect and a declaration of war. It is not about insecurity but disrespect. No man should encourage disrespect in the guise of not being insecure. The most important thing is the ability to reject such gifts and stick to your plan. It is not about the destination but the journey. We are not walking on the street and already have cars. We also have a roof over our head. Contentment is the most underrated quality in a spouse. @OIuwatosin was very correct. Having a content spouse who is still very functional and has a plan for life is more important than most people realize. By the way, my wife can afford that car but she still wants me to buy it for her. She bought me a car in 2018 as a birthday present. I will need to do better and get her the latest version of the car she wants each year while I drive the old one. So far, so good. Again, the journey is more important than the destination.
