You and your wife/husband cross $1,000,000 in total net worth. Would you call yourself a millionaire?

@MrBudgetBill This should not be unpopular but it’s amazing how many people do this these days. The T-shirts. The hats. The bumper stickers. I’ve even see it go so far as to be at WEDDINGS?! It’s a pretty large 🚩to someone’s character IMO - regardless of which side they stand on.

Croatia is officially booked in 2025 for my wife & I.✈️ The best part? The hotels were less than $40 total for 8 nights. Thank you credit cards!🫡

@MrBudgetBill Honestly I’ve seen an uptick lately of older people foregoing home ownership, taking the higher-priced market as an opportunity to sell, and go for apartment living. Some of it seems money motivated. But I think some are just tired of the constant upkeep, especially at that age.

Can you imagine still renting an apartment or house at 60 yrs old?

Buy vs rent. Invest vs pay off debt. Finance a car vs pay cash. College vs trade. At the end of the day, it’s no one’s f**king business other than the people a part of your household. People on the internet do NOT know even a fraction of your situation. Do what’s best for you.

@palminvesting Exactly why my wife & I don’t max our 401ks. We both get our matches, max our Roth’s, and then it’s all to our taxable brokerage. Some may disagree with it but I agree with you, if the goal is to retire before 60, then that’s a LOT of money you have to “wait” for essentially.

If you REALLY wanted to retire before 60, wouldn’t you want to not max out your retirement accounts?

I’m not saying I’m perfect at this either 100% of the time. But it’s astonishing how many men just want a version of their mother in a partner to tell them what to do, where to go, and how to do things. She’s your wife. Not a full-time executive assistant for you.😅 (3/3)

Communication is key, of course. But wow, no wonder so many marriages are unhappy if wives are treated like a reminder-alarm. If it’s something specific, sure - communicate. But stop pretending like in many scenarios, this isn’t another form of weaponized incompetence. (2/3)

Most of daily married life is habitual IMO. Cleaning. Cooking. Working. Shopping. Your wife really shouldn’t have to say “Can you help bring in the groceries?” or “Can you go cut the grass?” or “Can you fill up the car?” She isn’t an office assistant for your marriage. (1/3)

*Tip for women. Most of us men really want to help but don’t know how. Give us lists! Give us list items weekly we can take off your plate & we love to help! Guys, ask her what can I take off your plate today? The key is solid communication around this. We can’t READ MINDS.

My “boomer moment” is I wholeheartedly agree that social media, on average, is doing a lot more bad than good with younger generations.

@AdultingIsEasy I know people like to split hairs and assign the words to certain scenarios and those scenarios only. But I’m with you. I think they can be used fairly interchangeably if people get over their own, specific interpretations of the word.

@GuyTalksFinance Last thing you want is some person just up there yappin’ nonsense, trying to crack horrible jokes, and have no idea what they’re doing. Yes, seen it happen. Yes, extremely embarrassing.

@GuyTalksFinance I think we paid like $1900 for ours. But a lot of it is location-based too. I’d say that’s a little higher than I would’ve paid but definitely in the realm of wedding pricing. Also a decent MC and DJ is likely worth the money if you’re already spending a good amount.

Buying a house can be the best long-term play over renting, and likely is - sure. But the whole phrase of “date the rate, marry the house.”… Let’s stop pretending like it’s not being said majorly by people trying to prey on the desperation of aspiring homeowners & families.

And to give advice to essentially buy what you can’t afford in the hopes it’ll become less in the future…is just not it.🤦‍♂️ And to make it less, you still have to shell out thousands to even do so. And if your budget is already blown, where’s that money comin’ from…?

I feel like most people who caution about prematurely buying a house - are not against buying all-together. We’re just tired of being told to ignore many (very possible) scenarios that could effectively cripple our financial lives - all in the efforts of becoming a “homeowner.”

“Date the rate, marry the house” is terrible advice, especially for desperate homebuyers. If you’ve already stretched your money thin hoping to refinance later, y’all realize it’s usually not free to do that… Could cost thousands on top of your existing blown budget.
