This just premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. Following a Congolese up-and-coming rapper living in Central African Republic trying to juggle life and music. 🎤🇨🇫 Worth a look. #CongoBoy

In the era of #ArtificialIntelligence, when human dignity is threatened by new forms of dehumanization, ours is the pressing duty to remain profoundly human. We must lovingly safeguard the grandeur of humanity bestowed upon us and revealed in its fullness in Christ, the splendor of which no machine can ever replace. #MagnificaHumanitas vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

Just watched the new Hamaguchi and that best actress award is SO deserved. And YES it had to go to both. Also the film is excellent fuck the gossip. Those 3 and half hour flew by.

“Not everything has to be great.” Yeah you know what? If they got paid untold millions to make it and were handed the keys to a storytelling kingdom that has been deeply important to people for generations, it better be fucking great. And if it isn’t. Let’s say so.

This film is finally releasing in US theaters in June this summer. After first premiering at TIFF and other film festivals last fall. Unfortunately bad reviews have kept it from gaining any good buzz and it doesn't look like it's worth a watch either. #Couture

@firstshowing You might be better off seeing it on its own anyway since it is a little long.

#Cannes2026 Admirers of Apichatpong Weerasethakul should keep an eye out for the Thai film 9 TEMPLES TO HEAVEN by Sompot Chidgasornpongse, who worked as assistant director on many of his films. It is a gorgeous piece of slow cinema that takes a contemplative look at family, Buddhism, and mortality. The director openly embraces the influence of his mentor and displays a similar sensibility in telling the story inspired by the trips he used to take to temples with his own family. After a prophecy predicts that his aging mother will die soon, Sokol heeds his boss’ advice and takes her and the whole family to nine temples on a daylong trip of merit-making. There are many small, beautiful moments to savor here, such as a child sitting on the sidewalk quietly offering floral garlands or the camera slowly caressing a tree from the bottom upward. French DP Jonathan Ricquebourg (The Taste of Things, Earwig) does some exquisite work. I came away feeling as though I’d visited the temples myself and gained a better understanding of Thai people and their customs. Weerasethakul is one of the producers of the film.

@ManFredd87 @bigtunaonfilm They do! They stil have a big screen on the beach and play movies (old & new) every night. But there's limited seats and a huge queue to get in and get one (since it's open to the public). But the screen is still there. This year they played Top Gun on the beach one night 👇🏻

@bigtunaonfilm @firstshowing Went in 2007 and a lot of what you wrote holds up (esp hydrating, fast food and being selective with street food). I prefer Savannah over Cannes, tbh. I also made the mistake of not bringing a universal charger, so I’d add that. Curious: do they still do movies on the beach?

So I went to Cannes this year, and things did not turn out as I had hoped. I found myself frustrated and disappointed by a lot of things. Some issues I had were just with the festival and city. Others were mistakes I made.

Zou Jing's A GIRL UNKNOWN was among the strongest Critics' Week titles. Quietly set against the backdrop of China's one-child policy, it examines (not without a rebellious measure of hope) identity & dislocation. I loved it. My review: variety.com/2026/film/revi…

Out on July 14th to watch. The thrilling follow-up to 2019's Ip Man: Kung Fu Master, director Li Liming's Ip Man: Kung Fu Legend follows the Wing Chun icon as he attempts to open his own martial club after leaving his police career behind. Looks like another badass Ip Man movie.

B/c "reduce your carbon footprint" was primarily used to guilt-shame individuals instead of holding corporations & systems accountable. AI has also come down to individual responsibility. Those of us who reject it unequivocally won't be able to stop it when higher ups don't care.

I’m trying to figure out how we went from “reduce your carbon footprint” to building AI pollution factories in every city.
