Starmer's attempt to play both sides has failed. He tried to look tough on Trump, but failed to condemn the illegal attack. Then he let US bombers pit stop here. He's dragged us into the war, and still managed to damage our reputation with the USA in the process.

A welcome U-turn from the PM as he finally agrees to UK bases being used to protect British interests under attack from Iran. Quite why it's taken him two days to make the most obvious decision of his premiership is another matter!

BREAKING: The number of students killed in an Israeli attack on an elementary girls’ school in Minab, southern Iran, has now risen to 40. 🔴 LIVE updates: aje.news/wllmt7

The UK government signalling they may unblock arms sales to Israel is deeply troubling. Let’s not be fooled by talk of “ceasefires” or “peace.” Israel’s genocide in Gaza has not stopped. Killings have continued. The illegal blockade remains as does the system of apartheid. And let’s be clear: the UK never fully banned arms sales in the first place. Exports of parts for F-35 fighter jets continued - jets that have been used in Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians. The International Court of Justice directed states in July 2024 not to render aid or assistance in maintaining the situation created by Israel’s illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. To attribute the lifting of this suspension to trade deals or Trump’s plans, rather than to our obligations under international law and ICJ rulings, is highly problematic yet painfully telling about this Government’s real priorities. These decisions should be grounded in human rights and legal responsibilities, not political manoeuvring. The UK must not reward Israel as it is deepening its illegal occupation and apartheid policies.

'I watched the confidence and competence of West Midlands Police's leadership unravel yesterday...' Former CEO of the Jewish Leadership Council Simon Johnson calls for resignations over new evidence concerning the decision to ban Israeli football fans from an Aston Villa match.

President Trump has fanned the flames of the far-right. And now a toxic form of politics is spilling out onto our streets. These are dark times, but those who seek to divide us will not win. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
