Tried out the new “Hyper-Fast” EV chargers at the Target in Edina the other night and went from 19% to 87% charged in 40 minutes.
By far the best chargers in the Twin Cities right now, wow.

@patio11 100% this thread. Government procurement rules are so antiquated, designed for fixed items like tables and chairs, rather than dynamic software. Rules decrease flexibility 100X. But the second you removed those rules, this same person would be complaining about graft

NYC's public college system paid Oracle ~$600M to build our course management portal. It's built on top of Oracle's PeopleSoft suite, which they refused to customize without an extra $400M (to hit $1B). New Yorkers got the image below and pay $5M+ / year for *hosting*.

@trillharris Menards had something like this when I worked there 18 years ago and has the same system mostly unchanged, and pretty quickly you learn to fly through those menus. Muscle memory becomes very powerful.

@chipsandpol @nikicaga Apparently you need to connect once while at your home institution before it will work elsewhere, so really for it to be useful it should be the primary network offered at your home institution, otherwise you'll never have a reason to connect until it's too late.
