Thika Town MP, Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a, has called for the creation of more counties in Kenya, proposing that the total number be increased to 60. She advocates for the immediate splitting of Kiambu County into two, so that Thika — with its sufficient population — can become a fully independent county. She further argues that it is long overdue for other densely populated counties such as Nairobi, Kakamega, and Nakuru to be divided as well, which would result in three additional counties. According to the MP, Kenya’s current population clearly justifies at least 60 counties. “More counties mean more governors and MCAs, which will translate into greater financial allocations and faster development for our people,” she stated.
