Yes, I'm pretty sure more than 13% (15/115) of costs at Neuralink are going to rent, utilities, managers, admins... things other than researcher salaries and supplies. That's what this reduction of NIH indirects to 15% is requiring universities to do.
Jason Shepherd@JasonSynaptic

A reminder that if you’re trying to cut costs for government, the NIH actually doubles the tax payer $$s! This innovation boosts the US economy in many ways. @elonmusk Neuralink wouldn’t have happened without it, as an example.

It turns out my humidifier is trying to kill me I got an air quality monitor and notice that the small particle pm2.5 count was reaching "hazardous levels" when the humidifier came on with tap water... but stayed totally healthy when I used distilled water

@VBkramnik @AstlinJ @DrSartorius1972 @chesscom I'm super cynical so I don't have a dog in this fight but overfitting is a fundamental and beautiful concept in statistics. I hope you are mentally, emotionally, and statistically controlling for multiple comparisons. What is the n for titled tuesday vs OTB?

@luckytran @MarinaP63 Those are 2 variables, distancing and masking. Nytimes broke story that evidence for masking outside was derived from construction workers that worked outside, yes, but ate lunch inside confined tents.

Universal masking and social distancing at the start of the pandemic were so effective that they eliminated a strain of flu, and now annual flu vaccines have been redesigned because that strain no longer needs to be included in the shot. Amazing.

Check out how spinal cord #celltype diversity exponentially scales up with the #swimtolimb transformation during frog metamorphosis. And, for those of you #evodevoneuro lovers, we also find striking conservation in motor and inhibitory neuron types between amphibians 🐸 and mammals 🐭. All in our new preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

RIP Tyreek Hill. He suffered a briefly unpleasant interaction with police that was entirely his own fault. I’m devastated. And all he has to comfort him is his $30 million a year salary. This is what black men have to deal with in our country. Outrageous.

This thread explains our new finding: during decision-making, trial-to-trial variance, but not mean activity, changes during disengagement.
Chaoqun Yin@YinChaoqun

New preprint alert! (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…) How does neural activity change when animals switch between engagement/disengagement? What may be the behavioral source of the changes? Are there any behavioral indicators of engagement other than the often-reported task performance and pupil size? We addressed all these questions in our latest project! (1/7)

@neuroecology I dunno. Inverted U shaped curve arousal vs performance. Auditory cortex detection threshold.
