Walked by this today. If only I had known how short-lived this sentiment would be. Now my colleagues and I work in short staffed emergency departments tirelessly while being treated with absolute disrespect by patients. How quickly times can change.

The prevalent feeling at #CAEP22 is that Canadian Emergency Medicine is fucked. To the extent that most of our problems emanate from beyond the walls of the ER means the health care system as a whole is similarly fucked. Things need to change

We keep hearing how our healthcare system is collapsing (which it is). But that does nothing to improve our understanding. Let’s use a hypothetical emergency department visit to highlight the disaster that is happening every day around the country. Here’s a thread 🧵:

Absolutely exhausting day. Constant nursing shortages, drugs in short supply, ongoing COVID infections, patients unable to access primary care and docs calling in sick. Emergency departments are buckling.

Ban Viagra. If pregnancy is “God’s will”, so is impotence.

Since I’m feeling a little burned out and Dr. Moore is, apparently, a certified EM physician and well rested I’m wondering if he could cover a few of my shifts in the coming month so I can take a break. Shouldn’t be a tough gig since things are going so well, right?

Being a woman in medicine: a 🧵 Today, I admitted a patient. I spent ~30 minutes reviewing their chart, then headed to their room. After introducing myself, I spent ~15 minutes in the room chatting with the patient and their family and getting additional history.
