La zona SAR istituisce un onere di salvare vite, non un diritto esclusivo di intervento. Sono acque internazionali, non libiche. Da sottolineare che una zona Sar richiede anche un porto sicuro di sbarco e la #Libia non lo è.

Witnessing a disembarkation in Lampedusa was profoundly moving. Behind every arrival are people, not numbers. We must continue protecting lives, uphold dignity and stop smugglers from exploiting human desperation.

It was a true privilege to meet His Holiness Pope Leo XIV @Pontifex. We spoke of solidarity, dignity, and the urgent need to save lives. Every life lost is a call to act, with compassion and courage.

IOM is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life after a vessel carrying 75 Sudanese refugees caught fire off Libya's coast on 14 Sep. At least 50 lives were lost. 

IOM provided lifesaving medical care to 24 survivors. Urgent action is needed to end such tragedies at sea.

I nostri cuori sono feriti anche per le più di cinquanta persone morte e circa cento ancora disperse nel naufragio di una imbarcazione carica di migranti, rovesciatasi presso la costa atlantica della Mauritania. Questa tragedia mortale si ripete ogni giorno ovunque nel mondo. Preghiamo perché il Signore ci insegni, come singoli e come società, a mettere in pratica pienamente la sua parola: «Ero straniero e mi avete accolto» (Mt 25,35).
