🔥 FIP.16 - Deflation Acceleration - What Does it Mean? 🤔 The latest Flare Improvement Proposal promises to slash inflation of the Flare Network’s native asset, $FLR, whist simultaneously increase deflationary pressures via novel, economically linked activity. From my perspective, this is one of the biggest benefits of the recently launched proposal, but let’s look at this from both angles and how the supply / demand economics effect your rewards going forward. Put bluntly, inflation is where your rewards (currently) come from, newly created tokens introduced to help secure the network and it’s data acquisition protocols via staking and delegating, where the entities providing services to all the network to function take a cut. FIP.16 promises to instantly decrease inflation from 5% to 3%, that’s a reduction to the amount you may receive from rewards by ~40%, for both users of the network and infrastructure providers the help it function. In addition to this, our negligible fees on Flare are due to 20x, further increasing deflation at a cost to those who are actively using the network. ✨ But here’s the twist, here’s what excites me personally… These changes dramatically affect the balance of supply and demand. Watch closely as we transition from a period of FLR accumulation to a period of utility back deflation mechanics. Yes, the amount of FLR you will receive via delegating / staking may reduce, but the changes proposed may be such that the demand for FLR increases as institutions enter and Flare’s novel protocols continue to be adopted. Getting rewarded 100 FLR at a price of $0.02 is the same value as receiving 200 FLR at a price of $0.01. Ultimately, I see this change as a pivot that focuses on reducing the amount of newly added FLR into circulation to promote better stability for Flare’s native asset whilst allowing holders to benefit from the adoption of Flare’s unique value propositions (of which there are many). Note that this is just one aspect of FIP.16 and I’m yet to even mentioning FIRE which will turbo-charge deflation even further, follow @CommunityFlare for my thoughts on that in the near future!
