@flemingrut My heartfelt condolences. Hearing a Christ-centered sermon is a great blessing. But hearing that same Christ say to us, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” as we enter his kingdom is pure glory. May that assurance sustain you as you grieve the loss of your husband.

My beloved husband has gone to the Father's house. He loved Jesus. He spent his last two decades supporting and promoting speakers who eagerly introduced Him to others. He loved to hear a Christ-centered sermon. He loved to support Christ-centered churches. He was loved in return

@flemingrut I’m just glad JD Vance isn’t my neighbour. Because I have nothing in common with someone who believes that.

JD Vance: “It is totally reasonable and acceptable for American citizens to look at their next-door neighbors and say, ‘I want to live next to people who I have something in common with. I don’t want to live next to four families of strangers.’” This is supposed to be Christian?

@AdamSchein Here's a stat, Adam: Trey Yesavage is the 1st pitcher in MLB history to strike out 12 batters in a World Series game without issuing a walk.

I am slowly (very) emerging from knee replacement surgery. Reading deeply about our national and global crises. Paul Krugman writes mournfully (today's NYT) about "White Rural Rage" and how no one seems to know what to do about it. Where, Lord, are Will Campbell's Elishas?

@JoanBandy @gpackiam Grace is primary. Repentance is our response to God’s initiative. Jesus demonstrated radical inclusivity before Zaccheus repented (“I must come to your house today”). Repentance is not the basis for our entering the kingdom. It’s the result of having been let in.

@gpackiam I like that. I like the way he dealt with Zaccheus. Yet, there’s just…something that rings off with the usage I’m hearing of it. Say Zaccheus didn’t repent. Would Jesus have been “inclusive.” Was the goal inclusivity, or did Jesus give best efforts toward discipleship?

I’m gonna be gut level honest for a second sorting this out… I don’t think Jesus just randomly loved “marginalized people.” {Breathe…Breathe!!!) He saw what the Father was doing in someone’s life and did that. He had no broad-scale plan to “be inclusive.” 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thoughts?

@johnpauldickson @AndyStanley @NorthPoint I loved your point about Bach and our feeble efforts to capture the profound beauty of his creations (though you did quite well on your cello 🙂). Harry Emerson Fosdick made a similar comparison in a sermon preached at Riverside, NYC years ago:

@HeraldOfPurity @kevinmyoung Everything depends on where the emphasis is placed. On us (our acceptance, understanding, repentance) or God (unmerited love, divine acceptance, prevenient grace). God does not accept us because we make ourselves acceptable.

@HeraldOfPurity @kevinmyoung This sounds like gospel but isn't. It makes repentance the prerequisite for grace. It simply exchanges one form of self righteousness, evident in the Pharisees, for another. The gospel is grounded in grace, not our understanding and appreciation of it.

@kevinmyoung Crooks and sex workers understood that they were living in great sin and that they were hopeless without an external saviour, that's why they appreciated the Gospel of Christ so much Luke 7:36-50 Repentant sinners will inherit the Kingdom of God, not the unrepentant, proud ones

My husband collapsed. No warning. Covid. Discharged from hospital yesterday after 3-day Remdesiver drip. Almost back to normal now. Without vaccine, would probably be dead. I observed the hosp staff with awe and wonder. Most had worked through those three unspeakable months 😷🙏🏽

@jaredcwilson Yes. Because Jesus carried the weight of human sin, he felt the agony of forsakenness. But the Father was never absent. The Abba he cried to was always “My God.” The One who “has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help” (v. 24).

Jesus 👏🏻 was 👏🏻 quoting 👏🏻 Psalm 👏🏻 22. Read the whole psalm. Please this Friday don’t tell your people that the Father “turned his back” on the Son or there was some kind of rift in the Trinity.

@PaulVanderKlay @Saville1559 @CRCNA Call me an optimist, but I don't think a split is inevitable nor do I think it's necessary. The deep dive on Cedric's article is enlightening. I think a similar analysis of how "confessional status" became such a focal point in the CRCNA and the HSR would be valuable as well.

In today's video I dig into Rev. Cedric Parsel's article in Abide about the validity in the @CRCNA of the Confessional Difficulty Gravamen. This is super nerdy CRC inside baseball but might become the most important thing in the current debate. youtu.be/q7FXSy6NA-U
