@Toye234 @scip_hannibal Like theres zero incentive to relocate to ghana, nigeria even south africa. Every country in africa is grappling with severe youth unemployment and inflation. The currency in most countries is weak compared to the western world. So why would anyone mass migrate.

It’s a baseless fair. Geographically, West Africans are the closest to Ghana. WA already have visa free access to Ghana for 90 days. If the so-called invasion hasn’t happened already, it won’t happen. People migrate for economic reasons, Ghana is quite expensive to live in with poor employment opportunities. There’s no incentive for mass migration to Ghana. Low employment opportunity is a similar factor in Nigeria and other parts of WA too.

Funny how Ghanaians on X were all for African open borders kind of vibe until they got a tepid version, i.e visa free access and they are suddenly anti-immigration with all sorts of excuses. Imagine if Ghana were $8K GDP/capita, we would be worse than S. Africans.
Ababio Ɔtafri Gya@has_cum_again_

As a Ghanaian you have access to 41 visa-free countries, 28 visa on arrival, and 4 ETAs. The country is hard. So why haven’t you packed your bags and left? Access to a place and the decision to uproot your entire life are two completely different things. That’s the whole point.

@flimsyfemi @islemonjuice Do we have the system and equipment to monitor the influx of these Africa nationals. Do you know most of these Africa countries are struggling economically? Hence, some will decide to stay adding to our overstretched infrastructure. Ghanaians are admitted on the floor in kole- bu

@consoleghana Terminology or not. Politics or not, right infrastructure or not, Security or not. The issue is the idea is a good one. Does it have challenges sure? Would they be solved? Sure. The best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago. The next best time is now.

I disagree with the idea that ‘Borderless Africa’ doesn’t mean no borders. If borders remain, then it is not borderless. What is being proposed is easier movement and trade, not the disappearance of borders. Using the term ‘borderless’ is politically attractive, but conceptually misleading. Africa would need to build, step by step, common institutions, legal harmonization, economic convergence, and trust between states. Only after that can you even begin to talk about reducing borders in a meaningful way. So the issue is not being against integration. The issue is starting from the right principles, with clarity, not from terminology that suggests an end state we are nowhere near achieving.

@onceafriend_ @gyaigyimii Politics is continium. This whole vision was Kwame Nkrumah's. Nana continued it, Mahama is trying to make it work and it would. Someone else would make it better and it keeps getting better. Shame on nigeria and other african nations still with closed borders and closed mindset.

@flimsyfemi @gyaigyimii comprehension, sigh stop comparing, europe did decide on open borders but they did not actually open them until a decade later after establishing initial security systems and they have been patching that system ever since, now ask yourself are we fully prepared?

@gyaigyimii The idea isn’t the problem, comparing Africa to Europe ignores the groundwork they’ve built over decades in security, infrastructure and administration. A visa-free Africa is a great idea but we’re not fully prepared yet, fix the systems first then the policy will work.

Rwanda, Kenya and Benin already offer visa-free access to all Africans. None of them have seen the tourism boom promised. What they have seen is increased pressure on local jobs and housing.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will introduce a free electronic visa regime for all African nationals, effective May 25, 2026, Africa Day, as part of efforts to promote Pan-Africanism, boost tourism, and position Ghana as a prime investment destination on the continent . #3NewsGH #TV3GH

Because we are not a mature continent, because many countries are profoundly different, because the average level is low, and the most developed countries, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal, Ethiopia, etc., rather than driving the continent's economy, as they are doing, would be sucked back 20 years. There is no development where immigration situation is unregulated.

Facts about Ghana’s new Free Visas for Africans Policy as announced by President Mahama: 1) Africans will not pay visa fees; 2) Not paying visa fees does not mean you will not go through visa screening. Africans will still have to go through a visa application process like everyone else just that theirs would be gratis; 3) Government is also introducing an e-Visa policy next month; 4) The Free Visa for Africans is a component of the e-Visa initiative; 5) All applicants including Africans will have to apply for visas through the e-Visa platform; 6) The novel e-Visa system shall be linked to Ghana’s newly established API-PNR system and other international crime database which allows our consular officers to check background of applicants and provide appropriate vetting to ensure Ghana’s security is not compromised; 7) People with criminal or deemed unsatisfactory records will not be admitted into Ghana; 8) Not paying visa fees is not the same as automatic entry into Ghana. There shall be no automatic and unvetted entries. 9) Adequate investments have been made by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the Interior and Transport to ensure a robust and technologically advanced architecture is in place; 10) For clarity, though former President Nana Akufo-Addo announced a Free Visa for Africans policy in 2024, that could not commence because the mechanisms and security safeguards had not yet been put in place. As President Mahama indicated yesterday, Ghana is now ready to launch an e-Visa platform for all applicants across the world and a Free Visa for Africans policy from Africa Day which is May 25, 2026 fully anchored on appropriate security and technological frameworks. May I wish you all a happy Easter. For God, Country and Continent.
