I am where I am today because of music. Music has played such a large role in my life that one of my priorities is ensuring our students have the same opportunity, through music education, to do what they’re passionate about.

@MatthewAKraft @shirin_hashim @mary_laski I’m excited to dive in-congrats! I’m also wondering abt the increase in charter schools &programs like TFA, which were supposed to help meet need for more teachers in urban districts, expanding in 2000’s to the point of replacing tchrs in districts like Detroit, New Orleans?

Can we just appreciate how utterly radical this quote is from Ofelia Garcia? A dead simple truth that dies in every classroom in the United States.

Must-read article of the day! 📰🚨 For too long, research has prioritized perspectives that center whiteness. @mildredboveda and @Er1caD discuss the need to uplift diverse narratives, especially the contributions of Black women educators and Black women in academia.

I recently earned tenure, and I've reflected on what that means as a first-generation Mexican American. There aren't too many of us in this position, which is a shame. rossier.usc.edu/news-insights/…

To honor all of the Black women who raised me including my late aunt and sister, I share this one. Written with my cousin & the spirit of my auntie/his mother “Donna Do” to counter deficit views of Black mothers and Black LGBTQ+ youth. Read it here: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00…

We cannot normalize being a monolingual country in a multilingual world. That closes doors for our students. That’s why we are investing in multilingualism and in turn, investing in our future.
