I honestly don't think there is anyone else besides Lauryn, but shout-out to Force MC's/MD's, Smooth and Smooth B.

what artist is this
English

@checktherhyme1_ @Kalpasso They are from EPA/East Palo Alto, so yes -west coast to the fullest.
English

@AlanSileabhin This was the main argument by anti-rap ppl back in the 80s. Like "It's not music since the can't sing/there's no melody"
English

@robpursey This was an instant grab back in the days. Found it in a local store. I love the raw sound of early 89-91 gangsta rap and this is no exception. Have you got their second album? The OG is super expensive. If you need the reissue on cd, let me know. Do you own Homicide's debut?
English

@Fritsvandewerel @coldgettincrums Def IV weren't originally from Houston but from NY.
English

@Fritsvandewerel My favourite label ever, a serious gamechanger for my taste. A fun fact: the Def IV and Royal Flush albums available on streaming platforms are sourced from my CDs. They didn't have them available themselves
English

@Fritsvandewerel @robpursey @Balibz Bored Stiff and their crew in particular, but I've heard others mentioning that album as a major impact factor.
English

@flobakk @robpursey @Balibz Who were you thinking about when you talk about impact on California underground scene?
English

Push It Along drums are all time favorites. I also think this is the tribe album with the best samples, it changed sampling forever
DFNS@DeezyFinesseDoe
I recently went back to People’s Instinctive Travels and the drums just smacked differently on that one. RIP Bob Powers yo
English

@Fritsvandewerel @robpursey @Balibz This is so true..by far my favorite Tribe album, plus the impact it had on the California underground scene to come in the 90s was tremendous.
English

@robpursey @Balibz People instinctive travels is my favorite ATCQ album. Why?
- best consistently, real album with its own vibe
- more specific ATCQ sound, I felt they moved more towards the rest in their later albums
English

@robpursey Totally agree. This remix is pure fire. I was so disappointed when I realised the album version was different
English

@robpursey @KevinBeacham The reason why old timers claim "rap is dead" is because hip hop constantly evolves and they don't recognise it. Sometimes it takes turns I don't like but that's a sign of vitality. It'll always evolve into something I like in the future. So many different dope sounds today
English

truth from @KevinBeacham
Kevin Beacham@KevinBeacham
Perhaps the "funniest" thing about all these recent discussions is that people have been claiming "Rap is dying" since "RAPPER'S DELIGHT" in '79. From the first major rap record, labels were confident it was a fad, and many pioneers thought that single was the start of the end...
English

@coldgettincrums I've always loved it. I remember it received a lot of criticism due to the extreme lyrical content. It's lyrically fun and over the top but musically amazing and a strong prequel of what was to come. But we need to talk more about how dope MC Ren is. Most overlooked rapper ever?
English

@robpursey That Jay Love album is one that I avoided back in 88. I finally bought it a few years ago tho. Not so bad, better than I feared. 14 year old me wouldn't spend money on it, 50s me wants to get everything I've ever physically held and put back on the shelf
English

@thehotboxsocial It's hard to pick a favourite Breed album. This one is dope but he had such a great catalogue
English

@robpursey I have two copies of the 12" single and the cd single with the same tracks. One of my favourite tracks from the 80s
English

@robpursey I love the 7 minute version of this track, plus the remix on the flip is dope
English

@robpursey @TheImpossebulls @sohoradio @Shawster1976 @MaskOfNorro @Fritsvandewerel @330P4_FERRARI @JaySwing @Flipout @contextflexed It would definitely be an honor to hook up. I don't have any particular plans so far but we have some business partners in L who might need a visit. I'll def let you know. We can discuss music for days
English

few Twitter people I’d like to get on my @sohoradio show in 2026 - @Shawster1976 @MaskOfNorro @Fritsvandewerel @TheImpossebulls @330P4_FERRARI @JaySwing @Flipout @contextflexed @flobakk - if any of you in London this year holler!
