@joeldrapper In my view "Technical Debt" is key tasks that have been moved closer to the stated end of the project. To deliver the project the "Debt" has to be satisfied. Heaven forbid the conversation; "wow we still have 3 poison pills to swallow before we deliver!"

@bradgessler Most senior level positions that I have observed are hired even before they formally interview. I got my last position because I wrote an unsolicited business plan. They liked it. The HR person was flummoxed, because I bypassed the whole HR algorithm.

@readjosefarias I find that I rely on this little tool from @hopsoft called "model probe." I always have a terminal window open so I can run commands from the Rails Console such as `Part.probe`. github.com/hopsoft/model_…

Confession time. When I want to look at the fields in an ActiveRecord I go to the schema file and search `e "foo`. Which matches `[create_tabl]e "name[...]` and lands me at the top of the schema definition. And I have no clue whether there's a better way 😂 there must be!

@coderberry And what I get to do is design manufacturing plants, and products to be built, and databases using my favorite tooling Ruby on Rails. All while embracing the LEAN methodology and Constraints Management.

I love programming, but today I learned that I might love it too much. To be successful as an entrepreneur, I need to remove the craftsman in me and only focus on the end goal which is to make money. I wonder if other devs have had the same experience and how they approach it.

@coderberry Eric, there are many who promote a "Grind" or "Hustle" culture as something to proudly achieve. In my day we called it a "Death March" aka Edward Yourdon's book of the same name. By "box" I mean your business. For me I want a "Calm" box, using LEAN principles, so I do what I do.

Its seems the ads have increased, I am getting fed content that I find iritating, and I do not like the direction of the TwitterX platform. Nine years ago I left Facebook. "So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye I leave and heave a sigh and say goodbye Goodbye!"

@josevalim I think many TwitterX users are looking for alternatives, but most platforms I have tried have an onerous onboarding process and then I am back here. Actively Looking 😕

@aviflombaum The biggest challenge is when I go to follow someone on a different platform the onboarding process for each has been terrible. So quickly TwitterX is becoming FB and I am planning my eXit, and not to threads.

The moat of your followers and community already being on a platform is just so powerful. I want to use threads, but like how will I move you all there?

@PoeHaH Don’t put so much energy on it. Improve the onboarding experience. Make the instructions more clear. Make the product better. Thank the customer (emotionally) as they are giving you exceptional feedback that will make your products better.

Someone uses a nulled version for months, then buys a license to get support as they realize they have an issue that requires help. Do you offer it?

@bradgessler It’s hard to do a client smell test via text or email. It’s also highly dynamic compared to the other forms of communication, so questions can be asked and answered. If a client of mine only wanted text or email I would probable be suspicious of low bid syndrome.

Every time I want to get bids on a project for my house, I’m shocked that ~90% of people still insist on phone calls over email or text. Anybody know why it works this way in 2023? I don’t think the counterparties are dumb—for I am the bozo who seeks understanding.

@joemasilotti Companies are always hiring. Even when they are laying off. It boggles the mind. Next, more and more HR managers and recruiters rely on Algorithmic hiring tools. I have never fit those params so I have find work by being super niche and networking.

2023 has been a rough year for RailsDevs. Started at $4k MRR and peaked at $6k. But now down to under $2k. But the businesses that are using RailsDevs are indeed hiring! I secured a hiring fee last month and there's potential for another soon. MRR doesn't tell a full story.
