most important initial piece of data for anything human-related is their position on whatever spectrum: location, skill level, preference. the root of personalization is the persons percentile. the root of community is also the persons percentile

quality trumps quantity proactive, well-researched and well-presented opinions will eventually beat average information based on ginormous data it's not happening yet, but it will it's just all lost in the sauce rn

Anyone who has practiced “birding” knows we rely heavily on the audible sound a species of birds makes to detect, locate, call, and identify birds. Identifying birds by sound is often the only means we have to detect their presence. Any plans to visualize “searching for birds” with audio?

📣 NEW! I’ve just released the BIGGEST and perhaps most creative project I’ve ever worked on! “Searching for Birds” searchingforbirds.visualcinnamon.com 🐤 A #dataviz article & exploration that dives into the data that connects humans with birds, by looking at how we search for birds.

WaPo had a mass layoff today No matter how you feel about media or the Post (and I’ve had plenty beef with both), it absolutely sucks when hundreds of hardworking people lose their livelihoods because their bosses don’t know how to run a business There’s a lot broken about the press, but we want a society with journalism that thrives in all forms, left and right and independent and mainstream This is just sad

New: Washington Post Executive Editor Matt Murray and HR Chief Wayne Connell tell employees to stay home for a zoom webinar ahead of “significant actions across the company.” Widely expected layoffs are scheduled to begin today.

my initial reaction towards the quantity and average quality of x articles so far in 2026 was negative but i have and still do really like the general idea of x articles. they remind me of workplace (rip) notes and as x ~ workplace for your career (tech twitter at least), not just your job, longer form written content is only fitting difference is rn since we're not all part of one big company, the culture/expectations of writing articles just isn't set yet. depending on the company, notes were reviewed and iterated on bc posting them were seen as a big deal, and some ppls jobs depended on them so even though most of the articles rn could've been a much shorter post, im optimistic the algo will sort things out soon
